But it’s multiplayer! You can ride a horse around jousting other people in first person view! This is officially the best $27 I have ever spent.
It’s a great game that’s been made even better (still would like dynamic weather or at least moving clouds) but the wanted man my character is supposed to talk to will only say he’s leaving town soon. So I’m playing the original until Wednesday.
All quake games (except quake 4) are half off on steam, including a bundle of everything for $15, if for some reason you are under the impression that quake games are good. The AI War games are half off too.
This isn’t digital, but I figured I’d mention it here. J&R is having a sale dozens of games for $3.99 each and GoGamer.com is having a 48 hour sale on games for various platforms.
Steam now has Borderlands for half price; this does not apply to DLC, unfortunately.
There was a whole separate thread on the game, but it looks like MLB 2k10 is on sale at ebgames.com for digital download - $2.99. I was on the fence for this game, but PC baseball games are such a rare thing, I’m going to get it despite the poor reviews it’s gotten. 24-hour sale, not sure when it started.
ETA - regular price $30, so a pretty big discount. Whether or not it’s a good deal depends on how good it is, I suppose, but it’s definitely a big discount. ![]()
Steam is running a free weekend for Modern Warfare 2 starting Thursday afternoon. You can preload the game and play the full version all weekend. If you aren’t interested in buying it, you could at least play the 6 hour single player, it’s pretty good.
Sigh, I wish they had released the hockey game on the PC.
The free weekend only applies for multiplayer. The singleplayer is not available for free.
Incidentally, the preload link didn’t work for me when I was using the beta client, but when I switched back it works fine. So if you’re having a problem, try that.
I haven’t tried it but I think you can pre-order Crysis 2 for $30 at the EA Store.
Direct2Drive is having 4 seperate weekly spring sales over the next month.
Among the games on sale this week, the most obvious great deal is dirt 2 for $10. Fallout 3 for $15 is pretty good. I’m gonna grab DCS: Black Shark for $15, which is an ultra-realistic flight sim (it’s basically the software they sell to militaries for multimillion dollar simulators), and about 20 others.
I’ve gotten one game from D2D and it seems pretty painless - you don’t need to run a client in order to run the games, you just download them and install them and then they launch just like the retail versions of the games.
Midweek sale on steam is the Commandos collection for $5 which is a series of 4 real time tacticss games, and AVP 2000 for $2, which is the decade-old original AVP game that I hear was pretty good. They recently updated it with steam-integrated multiplayer so it’s worth a shot for $2.
I’ve told all you bastards on my friends list to get dirt 2 but everyone says they don’t like racing games. Neither do I! Who does?! Racing games are lame. Yet dirt 2 is awesome. I’ve had 3 people tell me they don’t like racing games, get it anyway, and love it now.
Yeah 6 of the 7 people we play Dirt 2 with don’t like racing games, but love Dirt 2.
Star wars: The Force Unleashed (Ultimate Sith Edition) is $15 this weekend on steam.
The indie game Madballs in Babo is free to play this weekend too and 75% off if you want to buy it.
I gave the the Madballs game a try and it’s certainly worth $2.50. The coop modes look especially fun. I’d recommend taking a shot - it’s hard to go wrong for $2.50. I ended up getting the 4 pack for $7.50 to give to friends since it’s so cheap.
Today is the last day to get this week’s d2d games, which includes the $10 dirt 2. I ended up getting DCS Black Shark, but Fallout 3 for $15 is also a great deal.
Black Shark! Does the download version come without the insane DRM?
Edit - It does not. Drat!
This is from direct2drive.com rather than Steam. I don’t know what DRM they use… typically it’s the same as the retail game, I think. Now you have me a little scared… I haven’t installed it yet - does the DRM require me to insert a rectal probe?
The retail version, if I remember right, had both a recent version of Starforce and a dongle. The dongle demanded ring 0 drivers and Starforce…well, is basically a rootkit. Obviously a download version won’t have the dongle, so that’s a plus, but the page says it still has Starforce. Do some reading up on that before you decide to install it.
New weekly sale on d2d (there will be 4 of them). Check out the link - too many games for me to list.
On steam Trine is on sale for $5 again, along with a new DLC level free. I’ve already pimped the game pretty hard so no need to repeat. You can also grab the Deus Ex games for $2.50 a piece. The first one may be the best RPG/FPS ever. The second one… not so much.
I see there’s a new music-based game: Beat Hazard. It’s $7.49 right now instead of the usual $9.99.
