Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

Heh, so true! There’s a bunch of mods for Dues Ex as well. They mostly suck though.

I just bought Deus Ex from Steam even tho I have had since it came out…I don’t want to take the chance of losing the disc. It is a game that I replay once or twice a year.

If the first game had the graphics of the second one, it would be the best game ever, as it is it pretty close to the top of a short list.

I’ve heard there was a mod that updated the graphics. You could try doing a google search.

I’m surprised to see that Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is on sale for $15 on steam this weekend. Activision is usually extremely stingy about sales or price cuts on the series. That’s the original game - not the more recently released modern warfare 2.

FWIW, COD4 is a better game than cod6/mw2, and at $15 it’s a really good price.

Good Old Games has a SciFi sale this weekend: 33% off the Descent series and the Freespace series (that’s 4.19 each).

Anyone wanting a copy of MOO 1 or MOO 2 that works on modern computers should head on over there anyway; $5.99 for both. They’ll probably have Master of Magic by the end of the month.

Direct2drive is having week 3 of their spring sale. Lots of good stuff there - Civ 4 Complete for $10 and IL-2:1946 for $5 are the best deals there. Altitude is fun for $5. Lots of other games there too.

Steam has every Rockstar game ever made in a big collection for $42 and the X3 space sim games are half off.

It looks like Steam is also running little 3 hour mini-sales on individual games in the rockstar collection, so if you want one in particular stay tuned. (Right now it’s Max Payne for $2.50)

Not going to announce every rockstar minisale, but a pretty good one is going on, a pack of gta1, gta2, gta3, vice city, and san andreas for $7.50, for 2 more hours.

I can’t get the age gate page to load on that. Worth it just for the radio station files.

This weekend on steam all the codemasters racing games are 75% off.

Dirt 2 for $10
Dirt for $2.50
FUEL for $3.74
GRID for $6.24
Toca Race Driver 3 for $2.49

Or the whole package for $17.50

Grid, dirt, and dirt 2 are definitely worth it. I’d imagine the other games are worth a few bucks. I’d recommend the pack.

Fuel is definitely worth $3.74. There are some strange environmental quirks, notably the programmers being too lazy to have separate ojects for the sun & moon. There are also road signs that are clearly misplaced, like ones announcing “Rest Area” on a dirt road. Also, the most hazardous weather conditions (e.g.: heavy rain & tornados) don’t exist outside races.

Gameplay is quite fun, even just exploring the huge map can be entertaining by flooring your vehicle and heading for the nearest ramp. The game keeps track of personal records like top speed, longest jump, longest hang time, but there isn’t a sanity check for such records. I’ve set distance & speed records by jumping over the side of a bridge!

There’s also an exploit that sometimes shows up while pausing a race. I don’t know if this exists in multiplayer but in single, it’s sometimes possible to pause the race and change your vehicle to something other than what that particular race would normally allow. You can also restart the race with that vehicle.

Civilization 4 complete edition is on sale for $10 on steam for this weekend. If you don’t have it yet, this is an absolutely insanely cheap price for what you get.

It comes with all the expansions, plus the stand-alone game Colonization. It’s a really great game, and I highly recommend it if you like turn based strategy games at all.

Civ 4 for $10 is going to ruin some lives.

D2D is in the last week of their spring sale. Lots of good stuff there. Mass Effect 1+2 for $35, Titan Quest + Expansion for $5, Sid Meiers: Pirates! $5, Fallout 3 $15, Trine $5, and a bunch of others.

There’s the Humble Indie bundle where you can pay whatever you want for World of Goo, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru, and Penumbra Overture and the money goes split between the developers and some charities, detailed on that page (you can even choose where the money goes). I always like these sorts of sales and I suggest supporting them. I’ve only played World of Goo in that bunch, but it alone is worth $10, so go ahead and donate (at least) that much for all 5 games.

Civ III Complete is 75% off as well.

I might need to get this to be sure I’m completely legal. I’ve already bought the package separately but at least one of them came from D2D and came with problems. Couldn’t get any help from D2D, Firaxis, or 2K, so I got a playable version from another source.

In honor of Steam now being available on MAC, Valve is offering Portal for free.

I see Steam has Torchlight at half price for PC & Mac.

Grr, I can’t get it in Singapore. Is it safe if I send someone USD 10 and they gift the game to me? Will the transaction fail or what-not?

Something like this almost needs its own thread to alert the masses. Maybe we can get an Admin to sticky it in all the forums.

It’s quite common to do this to get around regional pricing and so far Steam has turned a blind eye to it. Obviously you need to have someone you trust set you up.
