Note this quote is from 2010–mentioned first to avoid death threats for falsely raised hopes:
Given the fact that last time the big sale was announced on 6/24/10, and there’s been no announcement yet, is this a sign that no big sale is on the way? Has anyone heard anything?
Developers have leaked that they were asked to participate, so it’ll happen. Rumor is it starts June 30.
Well I think the steam summer sale is starting today. I was showing 1372 specials but before I could check them out the site stopped responding (probably people hammering it trying to throw wads of money at valve).
Also peggle was the daily deal for the next ~264 hours, so there’s that.
Yeah, it is - there’s a bunch of crazy sales plus you win ‘tickets’ you can use to get prizes (you get the tickets for getting achievements and such, very similar to the treasure hunt thing they had before).
The prizes all look pretty bleh so far, I don’t know if they are going to change them up or add more but right now it’s mostly DLCs or cosmetic items for various indie games (and TF2 of course)… Nothing really stands out too much, but maybe if you really love one of the few games that has a prize for it would be more interesting.
They are also doing the wishlist thing again - if you have 10 or more items in your wishlist then tickets add you to a drawing to win your top 10 wishlist games, so fill that wishlist up if it’s not already.
Looks like something happened, a “Steam summer camp sale.” June 30 - July 10.
A few samples:
Oblivion GOTY $6.80
Test Drive Unlimited 2: $9.99

These sales generate enough discussion that it’s best to post about it there.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution for $36 after sale & promo code
Use 20% off promo code at checkout: BRING-MESUN-SHINE
Note: Game must be activated on Steam.
Link to original deal
I’ve heard from several sources (including a friend who got to play it at E3) that it feels much more like the original Deus Ex, and not like Deus Ex: Invisible War. I was planning on waiting for reviews, but $36 is inexpensive enough for me to just buy it, so I did. Let’s hope it’s good!
D2D is running a 31 days of deals sale to try to compete with teh steam summer sale. So far it’s not as good. I’m not sure how often the deals change. Today is the original warhammer: dawn of war series with expanions for $20, borderlands $8 (not even the GOTY edition with dlc that was just on steam for $7.50), Batman AA $12 (probably lower on steam coming up), KOTOR $4 (just $2.50 on steam), UT3 $8 (Unreal complete may be $10-15 on steam).
But I’ll check occasionally to see if there are good deals going on there.
gog.com has a bunch of old games for 50% off. Of particular interest to me was fallout 1 and 2, which I’ve owned but lost the cds for. I hate rebuying stuff, but I’ve heard gog makes sure all of the compatability stuff that you need to run old games is already done for you, so I may grab some of that stuff just for convenience.
EA is having a fourth of July sale but… the steam sale beats their prices on their own games, so… um… some of those iphone games are pretty good.
Civ 5 is $20 on d2d for today only. It’s a steamworks game so you’d activate it on steam anyway - that goes for retail copies too so if you see it in a store for $10 you could add it to your steam games library. Fallout 3 GOTY is also on d2d for $10. And Empire: Total War for $8.
Today only steam has IL-2:1946 on sale for $5. It’s pretty much the definitive hardcore ww2 flight sim containing all of the various IL-2 incarnation.
D2D has Tropico 3 gold for $5, M&B: Warband for $8.
Impulse has Fallout 3 GOTY for $10.

Civ 5 is $17 on steam this weekend. Altitude (a 2d multiplayer sidescrolling dogfighting game) is $5 and it’s also a free weekend - you can install and play the full game to try it out. GRID is also $5.
Impulse has HAWX 2 for $7.50, cheapest I’ve seen it
For the first time ever, games for windows live has a useful sale. It has Section 8: Prejudice half off for $7.50. It’s actually a pretty good game, sort of feels like a slower slightly dumbed down version of tribes, but that’s still praise considering what garbage most modern multiplayer shooters are. It feels most like an old school shooter out of anything that has come out in the last 2 years. They’re also running a promotion where if you’re one of the first 2500 people to make a purchase on games for windows live for the next week (starting today) you’ll get a voucher for 400 points back. If that works, that means you’d get the game for $2.50… or you can just buy whatever else you need from gfwl, DLC or whatever. The small print does say it’ll take a few weeks to deposit the points though, so that’s obnoxious.
Shattered Horizon is a daily sale on steam for $5. It’s a clever game that does some stuff really well, but doesn’t have much depth, and very few players. If you want to play the game, get your time in now while there’s an influx of new blood.
D2D has Hearts of Iron 3 for $4.
I made a gameplay video with commentary tonight for Shattered Horizon if you’re interested in seeing what it’s like. Not sure how long the population the sale brought in will last, but it’s definitely an interesting game.
Looks like there’s a new Humble Bundle.
Games included are:
Crayon Physics Deluxe
Cogs
VVVVVV
Hammerfight
And Yet It Moves
I normally don’t post updates just for one steam daily sale, but I know a few people have been waiting for a sale (and missed the last 5) on Batman: AA for $7.50. Today only.
