Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

Gamersgate is having an absolutely insane summer sale, I mean completely crazy and better then steam (no, I didn’t think it was possible either)

There are games as low as 14 cents, and discounts of 97% on some things.

…and this is only the first week of 4.

I highly, highly recommend jagged alliance 2 gold for $0.54. It’s somewhat similar to xcom, and is really an excellent game and an absolute steal for that price. Really, unless you absolutely hate that sort of game then you should buy this because it’s really good.

Disciples 2 gold ($0.27) is another good one (turn based strategy vaguely similar to HOMM) and if you like 4x games space empires V ($0.54) is pretty good with fan patches (base game’s balance is completely terrible but fan patches fix it up pretty well).

That almost seems like a glitch/pricing error to me. There are dozens of games under a buck. I don’t know how I can not buy all of them.

Meh–it includes games that are really, really old, games that surely aren’t selling a dozen copies a week anymore. Looks to me like those might be loss leaders designed to get people to try their service, the cost maybe enough to cover bandwidth.

STill, I’ll check it out.

I’ve used gamer’s gate many times before and I like it. However, you do get slapped a foreign exchange fee by your credit card. It’s not much, but it’s something to think about.

GG uses paypal (or a selection of other options) to process your order, they don’t process it directly. Paypal didn’t slap me with a foreign exchange fee for my order. Maybe it’s different for other countries? (I’m in the US, GG is I believe Swedish)

Anyway, it seems like some of the prices were mistakes and they are largely fixed now. Some games are still really cheap (97% off etc) but mostly stuff I’ve never heard of.

There’s still a lot of great deals though, lots of 70% offs and such. It’s worth checking out.

Steam has all the paradox strategy games on sale for 75% off or the entire pack of them (all the Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, and Victoria games on steam as well as all dlc) for $45. These are hardcore, extremely detailed historical strategy games.
Another midweek sale on steam is Anamoly: Warzone Earth for $3.33. It’s apparently a reverse tower defense game - you need to assemble your units and create paths through an enemy tower network. Good reviews, I’m gonna give it a go.

The DCS games (A-10, Black Shark) are 33% off. Not cheap, but I’ve never seen them discounted before.

Steam has a sale on all the id Software and Bethesda games going on this weekend, as a QuakeCon promo. On sale in particular, Brink is 50% off and also free to play for this weekend. I know SenorBeef, at least, was wanting to check it out.

They’ve also put in TF2 promo items for Quake 4, RAGE, Skyrim, Brink and Fallout NV for the weekend sale.

Today only on steam is Fallout: NV for $10 and Fallout 3 for $6 (or $10 for GOTY edition), with their DLCs on sale too.

New Vegas DLC is still $5 each. I wonder if I should buy the game now for $10, or just wait for a GOTY edition down the road… I hate buying dlc seperately. Are any of the DLCs especially worthwhile, like how Broken Steel gave a lot of extra content to F3 but the others were meh?

Somebody did the math at the last Steam Fallout sale and it was cheaper to buy it all in pieces than the likely price of the GOTY edition. I don’t know if it is the same for this sale or not but I’m guessing so.

Also GOTY will likely have the DLC as separate downloads anyway that you activate in the main menu so there really wouldn’t be much difference other than the name on your Steam list.

No clue if the DLC’s are worth it. If reviews are anything to go by Old World Blues seems to be the best of the lot.

This weekend, GOG has the Zork games for 40% off.

http://www.gog.com/en/promo/zork_games

The Zork Anthology includes all the classic Zork-series text adventure games from INFOCOM. I believe Zork 1, 2, and 3 have previously been released for free some time ago, but this package also includes Beyond Zork and Zork Zero (as well as the unrelated Planetfall, for some reason).

Return to Zork, Zork: Nemesis, and Zork: Grand Inquisitor are the newer point-and-click style graphical adventure games. All are fine games, well worth buying for full price, let alone the $3.60 each.

It’s Kalypso Weekend at Steam with all Kalypso games at 66% off for their Fifth Anniversary. I recommend Tropico 3: Gold ($6.79) and Dungeons ($13.59).

Section 8: Prejudice is $5 on steam for the mid-week sale. It’s a surprisingly good game - an old skill long time to kill game with a verticle element, which is more like an old school pc shooter than all of the copycat modern shooters. Sort of like a slower version of Tribes. Not many people playing it multiplayer, but maybe the sale will revive it.

The daily sale is Front mission evolved for $7.50. Some mech game, I think.

D2D has Hearts of Iron 3 for $5.

Call of Duty Weekend at Steam. All CoD games, except BlOPS and pre-orders, are 50% off. BlOPS is 33% off and multiplayer is free until 1PM PDT Sunday.

www.direct2drive.com is having a Labor Day sale, mostly package deals. Most of the individual titles I’ve seen on sale elsewhere for very cheap, so I don’t really know if any of the deals are worth it.

One of them, though, is a 2k Games bundle, 20 games for $80. Among other things it includes Bioshock 2, MLB2k11, Duke Nukem Forever, Civ 4, Civ 5, and a bunch of other stuff. Could be worth it for somebody, not sure I want to spend $80 right now, even though I’m pretty sure I’d be getting my money’s worth on games I’d actually play.

The Mount & Blade games are 75% off on steam today only. Warband is the best of the series - in fact warband has everything the original mount and blade has, but better - so no need to buy it. Fire and Sword is a different era/different weapons done by a different team - not much different from warband technically, more like a total conversion mod, but for $3.75 it’s pretty good. We have occasional SDMB axe to face matches.

In fact if you want to give the multiplayer a try, me and some friends are gonna be playing it here and we can host the various internet people and maybe get a 10 player game going. Add me on steam (senorbeef) if interested, and preferably have ventrilo installed, I can give the server info once you’re ready to go.

I’ll point out, too, that Steam has a complete Paradox Interactive package of several games and enhancements for $99.99, roughly one-third the price of the games by normal deals.

Steam’s having a sale on all sega titles, 50% - 90% off for the weekend: Welcome to Steam

Alpha protocol (the 90% off) is only $2. I haven’t played it yet, but it got decentish reviews (72 metacritic) and for that price, how bad could it be?

I had fun with it, the combat isn’t great and it’s mostly on rails, but it has some interesting aspects.

They’re doing another humble bundle with SpaceChem, Frozen Synapse, and the Frozenbyte games (Trine, Shadowgrounds).

You’ve probably heard the deal before - pay what you want, they split it up amongst the game devs involved and two charities - and you can use sliders to determine where your money goes if you want.

Don’t be a dick and cheap out so you can say LOLOL I RIPPED OFF NICE INDIE DEVS AND CHARITIES like everyone else on the internet.
