Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

There’s a THQ sale this week on steam with each day bringing a different THQ game on sale. Today is Metro 2033 for $5 which is a great game and totally worth it. You’ll need a decent PC to run it though, it’s pretty technically advanced.

You can also get the whole THQ bundle for $50. If you don’t already own half those games, it’s a great value - tons of good stuff there.

Has anyone found anywhere cheap to preorder battlefield 3? I’d be willing to consider retail too (for the first time in like… 4 years?) since it’s not likely to be on steam for preorder anyway.

Through the 24th Steam has a GTA bundle for $12.49. It includes Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City.

Hey dopers!

It’s time for Steam’s Halloween sale!

Everything with zombies, ghosts, and other types of scary things is up for cheap!

Someone was looking for Plants vs Zombies recently, well it’s on sale for $4.99

Some of the bundles look pretty amazing, specially if you havent delved into some of these franchises yet.

And pick up AMnesia Dark Descent if you haven’t and you like scary games. Nothing will scare you more.

Last chance to grab stuff from the steam halloween sale.

There’s a new Humble Bundle.

Steam is having a “Midweek Madness” sale on the whole ARMA franchise. I never played any of the ARMA games, or their apparent origin Operation Flashpoint. Any good? Worth getting?

Great if you like military sims. It’s big, unforgiving, highly flexible, buggy. Single player campaign that ships with it is buggy and not that impressive, however there are hundreds or more user-made missions and mods, both single and multiplayer. Also has a good multiplayer community.

Check out gameplay videos and reviews.

Just noticed Good Old Games (gog.com) is giving away copies of Ultima IV.

Thanks for the response! I gave it a miss - I prefer single-player and don’t have much time for sifting through mods and bugs. The reviews didn’t make it seem appealing either.

Steam has a weekend deal for F1 2011 and Dirt 3 both being half off, or you can buy them both together for just $8 more than one, which is a pretty good deal if you like codemasters games. I like Dirt 3 and we’ll probably go back to having SDMB games soon.

Direct2Drive has Battlefield Bad Company 2 for $5. Batman AA is $7 on GamersGate.

If you’re like me, and waiting 8-10 months for Skyrim to go on sale and all the patching to be done, you might want to head over to Steam and pick up Oblivion for 75% off. Sale ends Thursday at 4pm PST.

Magicka is free to play on steam this weekend and also 75% off making it only $2.50. It’s a cute, unique little game that’s obviously worth that much. You can even get a 3 pack for $7.50, so give some copies to your friends.

Or you can get the collection which includes all the DLCs they’ve done for $6.

There’s also the super meat boy anniversary pack which mostly contains games that aren’t super meat boy. Not sure what the connection is. It has an odd combination of games like SMB, World of Goo, Braid. Anyway, $25 for a bunch of stuff. All the stuff from that pack seems discounted individually too.

Bejeweled 3 is 50% off which still leaves it at an overpriced $10.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity unexpectedly made its way to steam (I noticed impulse changed its name to gamestop downloads, so I wonder if stardock is having some sort of fued with them) for $15. Good if you like 4x type games.

Penumbra collection on greenmangaming for $6, Just Cause 2 on gamersgate for $5, and the UFO series of x-com themed games for like $3 each on GOG. Are those any good?

X-com (UFO) 1 WAS awesome at the time. Dunno how well it holds up.

Just Cause 2 is an awesome sandbox game. For $5, it’s a steal.

I never actually finished the main “plot” because I waste all my time doing dumb shit like grappling fighter jets on take-off to cars and watching it flip out of control and into a mountainside. Or stealing a tank and going berserk in a town blowing the crap out of everything. Or stealing helicopters. Or grappling the head of a statue to said helicopter and trying to hit things with my improvised flying wrecking ball. Or abandoning said helicopter and grappling to the guy who just shot me down and stealing his helicopter. Or seeing how far down a road I can get trudging along with a minigun, destroying everything I come across. Or…

…anyway, for $5, you need to get it. It’s like running around like a lunatic in a Michael Bay movie.

Also, the visuals are very nice, especially the landscapes.

Apparently Super Meat Boy features characters from all those other games.

Heh, I misread SenorBeef’s question as asking if the Gamersgate game sin general were any good (didn’t realize it was SB). I stand by my words of approval even if he already knew it

No, I meant… there were a bunch of games called UFO: aftershock/afterlight/etc which aren’t remakes or sequels to x-com, but spiritual successors, and I was wondering if they were any good.

I played the first one. Wasn’t as deep as the X-Com games, more casual, but I enjoyed it a lot and it definitely brought back some good X-Com feelings. If I had time to play more games, which I don’t (thanks Skyrim and fiance), I would certainly jump on those.

Universally terrible. I think the only glimmer of light in the entire genre these days is the JA2 remake due out any month now.
