Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

Still no hint of a Steam sale, but Amazon has begun its own summer sale. Some notable deals:

Max Payne 3 - $29.99 (50%)
Spec Ops: The Line - $24.99 (50%)
Civ V GoTY - $24.99 (50%)
Plethora of Paradox games - $19.99 (86%)

Some of these will actually give you a Steam activation code, so it’s just as good as getting it on Steam.

Amazon adds games to their sale so it’s advisable to check it out every once in a while.

Square Enix Pack with Just Cause 2, Kane and Lynch 2, Supreme Commander 2, Tomb Raider: Underworld and Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light for $7.50. Pretty great package there - JC2 and LCGOL are worth it alone.

Shogun: Total War $7.50. Or a total war bundle with Shogun, Medieval 2, Rome, Empire, and Napoleon with DLC (at least I think they all have their complete editions) for $30. Fall of the Samurai is $7.50 too - that’s a standalone expansion, right? Would it be better to get Shogun or Fall of the Samurai?

Virtua Tennis 4 $5 or combined with Football Manager 2012 (which I assume is the most exciting game in the world) for $12.50

Package of Bulletstorm, Mirror’s Edge, The Saboteur, Mercenaries 2, and Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box for $15

Psychonauts $4

Civ V: GoTY is now actually cheaper in the 2K Strategy Pack for $19.99 than to buy it alone.

You also get Civ IV: Complete and the Stronghold Collection. Even if you own or don’t want those, it’s still better than the $24.99 to buy Civ V: GoTY on its own.

Green Man Gaming is offering 25% off any and every game for the next three days. Might be good if you’ve wanted something more obscure that doesn’t hit the big sales that often.

If it stacks with other discounts, that could end up being pretty good. Is there some way to search GMG for games that are on sale though? “Bargain bucket” just lists them by price (so there’s a ton of $1 DLCs in front) and “Hot Deals” doesn’t seem to have any pattern to it - lots of full priced games in there.

Edit: It does seem to stack with other discounts. You can see what’s already on sale by going to http://www.steamgamesales.com/ sorting by store, and then going to green man gaming.

I believe it stacks with games already on sale but not games that have a different voucher special (can only use one voucher) or special offers. They’re offering $7 trade-in credit against End of Nations: Founders Edition if you got the free copy of Commandos 3 from them recently but it wouldn’t let me stack the voucher on top of that.

And, yes, GMG is as bad as (or worse than) Amazon when it comes to organization and displaying sales.

Both.

If you must choose only one, then you should consider how well you like to play with firearms. Shogun 2 will have the classic spears, swords and bows, with firearms limited to inaccurate muskets and crappy cannon. If you choose one of the northern clans, guns may only show up late in the game or not at all. In Fall of the Samurai, the gun is supreme. You’ve got highly accurate rifles, artillery pieces, and Gatling guns. You can have great fun mowing down traditional Japanese units, The Last Samurai-style.

If you picked up Disciples II: Gold Edition when it was free from GMG, it’s worth $3 in trade-in credit. I used the 25% voucher plus traded in Disciples II and got Mafia II for $8. I only grabbed Disciples II because it was free anyway so I call it a win.

Amazon keeps adding stuff but they’re terrible about showing you what they’re adding, so just keep checking their sale page.

It amazes me how Amazon has become one of the biggest retailers in the world while being so terrible at helping you find stuff to buy from them.

Notable games:

THQ Action Pack: Darksiders, Metro 2033, Nexuiz, Red Faction Armageddon + DLC, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance $15
Bioshock 1/2 Pack $7.50
DeadSpace 2 $5
Payday The Heist $5 or $15 for 4 copies
Alice: Madness Returns $5
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit $5
All 5 original xcom games $3
COD: MW3 for $30. Not that I recommend it at that price, but it’s rare to see any sale for that game so if you’re gonna get it $30 will be the best price for a while. MW2 is $10 which is worth it for the coop missions.
Bulletstorm $5
Mafia 2 $5

Correction: Mafia is $5. Mafia II is $12

I thought I was the only one! I hate their entire navigation system.

Has anyone tried this one out? I’m taking an awesome class on children’s literature, and today we discussed Alice in Wonderland, and I got to give a brief overview of the first in the series, which I quite enjoyed, but I’ve never tried this one.

Also, is there any word on whether Steam is going to do a summer sale this year?

Edit: there’s a rumor going around that this is a list of games steam will be putting on sale. I have no idea whether there’s any truth to the rumor, but if there is, it looks like a crappy list to me.

The Steam sale will likely start on Thursday. Those games listed are just for indie game bundle and not the main games going on sale. Likewise there’s a bunch of bundles in the database but there be the usual stand alone titles as well. Since the stand alone traditional games are already in the database, there’s nothing new there to track. The bundles are technically new (in that the entry for the bundle is new) so those are showing up in the database tracker and getting everyone all excited that they must be the sale.

Green Man Gaming is giving away Hacker: Evolution today. Expect the site to run very slow because, hey, free stuff and everyone wants their piece. I’d recommend just slogging through the “purchase” and saving the actual download for another day.

With the game you get a voucher code for 20% off anything on the site. Stacks with sale prices, does not stack with other vouchers/special offers.

Battlefield 3 retail (non-digital) is on amazon for $20. I know physical copies are out of the scope of this thread, but it’s the best deal I’ve seen on it and well worth it so I thought I’d mention it.

Defense Grid: The Awakening is the daily sale on steam for $2.50 or $4 with all DLC. Also recommended.

Sniper Elite V2 is $14.99 (70% off) at Amazon. Sale just started and trying to buy it is taking a while for the servers to behave under the customer load.

Steam summer sale started. Thread.

Green Man Gaming is giving away another game, this time Hacker Evolution Untold. Like the Hacker Evolution give-away, “buying” this game also gets you an additional 20% off voucher for a single purchase in the month of July. GMG is starting a “Winter sale” in the next day or so so you may have the chance to stack your voucher on top of a good sale price.

Impulse is selling 500 copies of Fall of the Samurai for $9.99 each tomorrow in a flash sale starting at noon central time. You’re really buying a Steam activated code; you don’t need to download the game from Impulse. They also have some assorted other daily sales – today is the Majesty franchise for 75% off.

Good old games has the Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena for $6

It’s an amazing stealth shooter and includes two full games.

Another free game (and a free 20% discount voucher) from GMG. This time it’s UFO Aftermath. I almost never actually play these games (but maybe you’ll love 'em) but grab them for the coupons and potential trade-in credit. Past free games have been redeemable for $2 or $3 of credit at later dates.
