is there anyone who disputes that, save a cure (currently unavailable), even if FOx isn’t ‘that bad’ right now, he will be in the future?
he let you in on his own personal future. if you find it distasteful to observe, have some compassion for the man who has to experience it first hand.
I find it much more repulsively unseemly that people are allowed to wander this country as ignorant and bigoted as Rush Limbaugh preaches to be, and yet their vote counts as much as mine does. Democracy is a bitch.
I feel like this is a terrible hijack, but how is Talent doing since his “I’m going to reverse my decision at the last minute now, since I’ve learned of this highly speculative technique of making non-viable embryos and I’m getting my ass kicked in the polls” thing? Has Fox’s video caused a bump for his opponent, or is it too soon to tell?
I was watching Scarborough’s show tonight and he seems to think that Rush’s attacks are actually backfiring on the Republicans. Scarborough (who is a Republlican) flat out predicted that it would cost Missouri the Senate race and intimated that Republicans behind the scenes want Rush to shut up because they think it’s just creating more sympathy for MJF.
People are reflexively turned off by seeing somebody essentially mock a cripple. Michael J. Fox is also a personality that people tend to find very likeable and Rush’s attempts to paint him as calculating, manipulative and dishonest is a dog that won’t even lick its balls, much less go hunting.
Fox’s interview with Katie Couric only made him look that much more sympathetic.
Wow, so instead of refuting any of my facts, you decide to attack me. I love it when people in The Pit just can’t come up with anything so they go with the either a) you’re a jerk or b) you’re an idiot. Why don’t you take a lesson from Aholibah and actually find something in my post that shows me I’m wrong and respond in a civil, factual manner? Oh, probably because you couldn’t but to make up for that you call me a prick. GG.
The section you quoted is indeed dealing with stem cells, and I did not know that because I hadn’t read the ballot initiative. But what I’ve heard is that stem cell research is already legal in Missouri, and going on in Universities across the state (according to Rush) so there’s nothing really on the ballot about it other than wording. I don’t know if he’s wrong or right on that, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt because people can obviously fact check that. I think another point might be that the opponent to the candidate Fox spoke for is not against stem cells in any way, which is another reason the ad was misleading.
Don’t forget Wyoming Governor Barbara Cubin [url=http://www.trib.com/articles/2006/10/24/news/top_story/f4de8437e0da75d28725721100041cd5.txt]threatening to slap[p/url] her opponent, Thomas Rankin, a guy who has multiple sclerosis and is wheelchair-bound.
Yes, Rush Limbaugh has to keep trying even harder to prove what an insensitive, boorish, vulgar, moronic, worthless piece of shit that he is. He says he never saw Michael J Fox display those symptoms before? Mr Fox appeared before the US Congress for Christ’s sake !!! (and Fox was displaying the symptoms back then).
Here is a video from a “Good Morning America” appearance.
Just because Limbaugh never saw Michael J Fox display those symptoms (except for the political ad) he thought Fox was “acting”? Limbaugh reminds me of those dipshits that dismiss evolution because they never see it occurring. Yes, the Universe was created specifically for them.
Not because it is against the rules to wish death on anyone, I sincerely do NOT wish death on Rush Limbaugh. Perhaps poetic justice would be his becoming a victim of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Yeah I’d like that a lot !!! Maybe people could make fun of him. Oh and as a present, people should send videotapes, DVD’s, E-Mails, etc of Rush making fun of Michael J Fox.
Michael J Fox has made a great many recent appearances and yet Limbaugh has the arrogance to say he never saw him? Maybe Rush was too busy watching Monster Truck Rallies, World Wrestling Federation death matches or Andrew Dice Clay movie marathons on the trailer trash network.
What REALLY bothers me about that conservative cowardly prick is that when the chips are down, when all the cards are on the table, etc, he’ll be sure to “pussy out”. I’m sure mostly everyone here knows about the brave, courageous way he faced up to the Vietnam War. A pilonoidal cyst on his ass kept him from serving. Now it seems that cyst has enlarged, taken over 100% of his body and he is now a 100% asshole.
As some of you may know, I have multiple sclerosis. Save the sympathy - I am ambulatory and work a full-time job. However, I do manage to be clumsy enough to allow Rush Limbaugh to have an endless supply of comedic fodder should I ever achieve any degree of fame and make a television appearance. I really feel like beating the shit out of Rush Limbaugh. Since I have MS, he’d consider it a fair fight.
Wow I was taking so long to type my diatribe and rjung’s posting intervened before mine. Now I see another creepy conservative has decided to show her courage by threatening a wheelchair bound opponent.
I think you’re right about that. We need all new zodiac signs for this year. We can replace Pisces with Rush Limbaugh. Instead of two fish it can be a whale with a giant asshole on its back instead of a blowhole.
Oh, stop. I never (suggested, hinted, intimated, claimed, demonstrated, illustrated, showed, displayed, put forth, asserted, expressed, implied, insinuated, imparted or professed) any party bias. Frat boy prank. Yeah, this was some frat boy prank.*
And my proprieties are my own. They do not come from a manual or user guide.
*Mind you, I’m not definitively stating they played up Fox’s illness for the cameras; I’m merely suggesting it was a possibility. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that, especially in an election year, anything is a possibility.
Whether or not Fox should be cured is not the issue. I bet you will not find anybody on any side of the issue that does not agree that Fox should be cured. The manner in which he should be cured is the controversy. It might surprise you when I say I’m for stem cell research/usage. But I find it difficult to believe that a candidate would not use Fox’s illness for leverage, given the chance. I believe the majority of those who even bother to vote are intelligent and informed enough to decide on the issue even absent an on-camera demostration of the horrors of Parkinson’s. Most people don’t need to be shown dead bodies to know that murder is wrong. They also do not need an illustration of a Grand Mal sufferer in a full seizure to know that epilepsy should be cured.
My grandfather suffered through Alzheimer’s for an extended period before he died; so your appeal to pity is meaningless in my world. Beyond a Google search for “Michael J. Fox and Parkinson’s” I don’t know how much exposure you’ve had to someone suffering from a neurologic condition. I know I’ve at least had the exposure of my grandfather. He, amongst others in my family, wanted stem cell research and (knock on wood) its subsequent cure more than anything. But I have a high degree of confidence in stating that he would not have approved using his disease state as a tool for securing such cure. He was a wise man and recognized that those who did not see the path to a cure would not be convinced by an on-camera display of the effects of his disease.
That’s the key, isn’t it. If you really think that McCaskill is more interested in curing Parkinson’s than getting elected, you certainly may have standing. But you also must allow that she might do anything to accomplish both tasks, including exploiting Fox’s disease to garner votes.
Again, I am not stating that she is exploiting Fox; but you must admit that it seems, in the least, a real possibility.
And if someone doesn’t find this dubious, then I’m wasting keystrokes as no argument will be persuasive.
I’m not sure I understand you. You seem to be saying that Rush preaches that he is ignorant and bigoted. Maybe a rewording is needed?
Anyway, I am not supporting Rush. I think he is as big a partisan bigot as you do. I’ve never even mentioned Rush in any of my previous posts. What I find ignorant, if in fact it’s the case, is that someone wants so desperately to get to the Senate that she feels the people can’t vote informatively without some staged demonstration appealing to their emotion. Again, if that’s the case.
You do know that Mr. Fox speaks and does these commercials voluntarily, right? He’s got an agenda, same as anyone else. If he’s willing to use himself, his celebrity and his condition to get support for that agenda, then more power to him. In fact, when you think about it, he’s using McCaskill’s campaign as much as they’re using him.
What I find unseemly are those people who apparently believe that the disabled have no right to advocate for themselves. All advocacy should be done by sympathetic able-bodied people who won’t offend anyone with spasms or drooling or tubes coming out of the base of their throats; nothing that would make anyone uncomfortable or anything.
As its been said earlier in this thread, I think it was more about allowing the viewer to see what Parkinsons does to a person than blind emotinoal pandering. I don’t even understand why thats an issue. Mr. Fox suffers from this disease. He has campaigned for other politicians (Arlen Spector, a republican) in the past for the same issue.) The big deal is that Rush Limbaugh not only mocked Mr. Fox’s disability, he lied and then made a half hearted apology. For that I called him a dick. Sure, there are many other reasons to call him a dick, but I’m going with this one. I don’t understand how anyone can side with Rush over this.
So it looks like: 1) Fox was taking his medication.
2) Fox would not be able to speak without taking his medication.
3) Fox sees himself as using McCaskill, not vice versa.
4) Rush Limbaugh is a little cunt of a person who has no compunctions about saying anything at all, as long as it goes towards a partisan point.
5) His defenders here lick the sweat off a dead man’s balls.
6) Patricia Heaton is a dumbass fuckface.
7) Katie Couric is a dumbass partisan conservative fuckface, whose ratings are in the toilet. (Okay, I did not see this particular interview, but I’ll take Digby’s review of it at his word until I can see it for myself.) He says of her performance in the web-based version of the interview:
