As reported in The Moscow Times, it seems that Russia’s Constitutional Court Lifted the Statute of Limitations for anti-corruption asset seizures. Is this just small potatoes, or is this a major deal that could keep courts tied up for years to come? This just sounds like a figleaf justifying Putin going after his enemies.

Like the eleventy gazilion dollar ruling against Google?

Yeah, or for general looting. Thing is, Russia is pervasively corrupt top to bottom. So you need to ask, how would corrupt people use this ruling?", because it won’t be used to fight corruption when there’s no will to do that.

And the answer of course is “to steal stuff”. Accuse somebody with fewer connections than you of “corruption”, take their stuff and profit. And Putin of course as the guy at the top can steal the most.

Also, “to punish your enemies”. Don’t forget that aspect.
