Sad Scene of the Day

Today I saw one of the sadder sights you can see on the road: a car, broken down on the shoulder, still bearing its 30-day temporary tags. Add to that the minus zero temperature and the distance to the next highway exit, and you just know someone had a bad day.

It’s just possible that the poor sod who SOLD them that car was gonna have an even worse day when the owner got up with them…

Just maybe-ing…

Maybe I should have added…so what was the saddest thing you saw today that wasn’t truly sad?

It’s a stretch, but here’s the only thing I saw that might qualify.

One of the Marshallese guys at work was putting on a new bicycle seat at lunch today…someone had STOLEN his old one last night.

Well, let’s see. Saddest thing I saw today was a documentary on the indigenous revolution in Chiapas, Mexico during the early 90’s (right after NAFTA went into effect.) I expected the film to be various interviews, flashes of newspaper, maybe a still photo or two. No. It basically consisted of someone walking around behind the masked revolutionary soldiers with a shaky camera while they made really lame motivational speeches… and zooming in on the blood-soaked corpses of dead soldiers. One of the most disturbing scenes was just the camera facing a row of bloodied guys with their hands tied up, and then suddenly you see them staring in confusion at the camera and realize they’re alive. The look on their face, the fact that they were probably going to die and someone was videotaping them in their most defeated and hopeless moment… you could see the incomprehension in their eyes. It was pretty disturbing. And the saddest moment was when the revolutionaries met at the capital in order to express their views… wearing masks, they unfurled the Mexican flag and calmly took their seats. The camera man walked up to one man, and you could only see his eyes through the ski mask… and he just pleaded, over and over, “We are human beings. All we ask is to be treated as human beings.” His eyes were very soft and tearing with the emotion of the moment.

Yep. Pretty sad.

Ummmm…I think you missed the last few words of post #3.
