Saddam Hussein wants a PS2 for Christmas

Okay, when the reports came out earlier this year that Japan might restrict the export of Sony’s Playstation 2 due to the fact that it’s processor could be used as a missle guidence control system, well…I just laughed it off.

Apparently there might be some actuall truth to this possibility. WorldNetDaily.com is running a story about how Iraq has been importing a rather large number of PS2s (well now, who isn’t? ), which has prompted two govt. agencies to investigate the usage of these game platforms for military purposes by the Iraqi army. The current U.N. ban on military/arms trade with Iraq prevents them from buying any computer devices which could be used for such purposes, but because of the PS2’s “toy” classification, it is not covered by the sanctions.

Just in time for another Bush to inhabit the White House, Suddam has found a way to covet American interests…last time it was over oil, this time it may be over our video games!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh man, I’ve been working with computers too long. I read the title and thought, “Who in hell wants an IBM PS/2? I’ll sell him my old 55SX door stopper!”

I wonder if nuclear warhead guidance systems can use the “Reset” button?

A year or so ago Apple had a neato marketing scheme around the classification of the G4 processor as a potential “weapon,” due to the advanced power.

MacPeople, can you fill us in on this?
