Saddam's WMD Have Been Found

The mainstream media don’t want you to know about this, so you don’t.

Until now.

http://www.insightmag.com/news/2004/05/11/World/Investigative.Reportsaddams.Wmd.Have.Been.Found-670120.shtml

Spread the news.

If the mainstream media gave this any credibility, you would not escape the reportage. As it is, it’s a badly assembled jumble of quotations.

From reading half of that “news report,” they seem to be referring to evidence that Iraq was working on ballistic missiles, which AFAIK, would be a violation of their treaties, but aren’t “WMDs.”

This is such a vast media conspiracy that even the Bush Administration is hiding it! Wow!

This is a joke, right?

I have to admit, though, that I´m intriged by the advertisment at the top of the page… “Electron energized water”??? WTF

Your cite is rightwing horseshit, but this poll on the side bar is priceless:

Funny, I read the whole story and din’t see any news about WMDs being found. Maybe the OP accidentally linked the wrong page?

The linked article is an interesting object example of bullshit assertions couched in qualifications insinuation, rank speculation, baiting and switching, etc.
I hope the OP intended to post it for the amusement of the board and doesn’t seriously buy it.

Wow! After reading that story I finally realized where Saddam’s WMD’s were! There at the Cenex! They got nerve agents (pesticides) and things that blow up down there (fertilizer/propane). There’s chlorine all over the place neatly stored in white plastic bottles (Chlorox). Heck, I bet they even have radioactive materials down there cuz I think I seen the hands on the clock glow! They must be makin’ a dirty bomb! Right? They even have biological agents in there too (live virus vaccines for animals)!

Its a good thing that the Iraqis never got a good translation of the anarchist’s cookbook.

cj

Now THAT’s a powerful liberal media conspiracy, that actually prevents the president himself from breaking this news that would be incredibly helpful to him! They must have pictures of one or both of his daughters doing something really embarrassing…

As many of you know…I’m in the media.

Right now consumer but prior to that military media. And prior to that politics.

And this ‘mainstream media is hiding’ shit really fucking pisses me off. The people who claim it tend to be the more paranoid, uninformed types who pass off their own ignorance as evidence of conspiracy.

So…to the OP…cite? Prove to me that

A) The story is real

B) That the ‘mainstream media’ (and give me a definition that all can agree on) has the story and is sitting on it for reasons of politics.

Oh, and aren’t those the same satellite pics and red squares that Powell showed the UN, pre-invasion? You’d think that with US troops on the ground for so long, they could get some new snapshots that actually show the buildings and WMDs from just a few feet away… Maybe all the camera-phones were being used in the Abu Ghraib prison.

The problem is that so many people eat these lies up. Y’all do know that Insightmag is a sister publication to the Washington Times don’t you?

This craptacular piece again?

Let’s examine this here and then just link back to it the next time it comes up to save the effort.

First, before I begin, I hope that you’re not being disingenuous with this post. I hope that you really think the WMDs have been found.
*“Key assertions by the intelligence community that were widely judged in the media and by critics of President George W. Bush as having been false are turning out to have been true after all.” *
Most of these ‘key assertions’ weren’t by members of the Intelligence Community, which is a specific set of organizations, but rather by politicans and their political appointees.
“In virtually every case - chemical, biological, nuclear and ballistic missiles - the United States has found the weapons and the programs that the Iraqi dictator successfully concealed for 12 years from U.N. weapons inspectors”
No relevant chemical weapons have been found, (yes, I know about the handfulll of pre-Gulf War remnants), no biological weapons have been found, (yes, I know about the ‘reference strains’ of botulism, which is naturaly occuring in most of the world), it’s not a stockpile of the microbes, nor is it a weapon, the toxin has to be processed out of large quantities of microbes to make a weapon), no nuclear weapons have been found, (not even a nuclear program).
So no chemical weapons, no biological weapons, and no nuclear weapons- that leaves just the missiles.
So, Mr. Timmerman belives that 1 out of four is accurately characterized as ‘virtually every case.’
I’d bet that if, as a child, Mr. Timmerman came home from school and told his mom that he’d gotten ‘virtually every’ answer on his test right and she looked at the test and saw that he’d only asnwered 25% of the questions correctly, (that’s 75% wrong for those of you playing along at home), he’d get his ass beat for lying.
I’m not saying that he’s a liar, mind you, just that thI’d bet his mom would in the situation described.

hyjyljyj if you child pulled this sort of stunt, (calling 25% ‘virtually every case’) would you consider that honesty?
“hundreds of cases of activities that were prohibited”
Activities does not equal weapons. Therefore finding ‘activities’ does not equal finding weapons. I hope that’s all the commentary necessary for this one.
“But while the president’s critics and the media might plausibly hide behind ambiguity and a lack of sensational looking finds for not reporting some discoveries, in the case of Saddam’s ballistic-missile programs they have no excuse for their silence”
Actually the missiles were reported. If you’ll recall, there was evena shipment of issiles that Iraq paid NK for but couldn’t get delivered because NK didn’t want to risk breaking the sanctions.

“violating United Nations resolutions”
Violating United Nations resolutions does not equal weapons. Therefore finding violations does not equal finding weapons. I hope that’s all the commentary necessary for this one too.

New research on BW-applicable agents, brucella and Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever
Notice the use of the phrase “BW-applicable agents”? That’s because these weren’t research into BW weapons. Both of these are indigenous to Iraq and have to be dealt with by the health officals there.
And, of course, research does not equal weapons.

continuing work on ricin and aflatoxin that were not declared to the United Nations
I don’t know what is meant by ‘work,’ but if it’s anything like the missile ‘designs’ on the back of notebook paper…
And, of course, ‘work’ does not equal weapons.

A line of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, “not fully declared at an undeclared production facility and an admission that they had tested one of their declared UAVs out to a range of 500 kilometers [311 miles], 350 kilometers [217 miles] beyond the permissible limit.”
Again, these are not weapons. Nor, according to the USAF, are they capable of being weapons delivery systems. They were for recon.

"huge warehouses and caches of ‘commercial and agricultural’
From export.govIraq has abundant resources of land and water, which makes agriculture one of the largest sectors of the country’s economy

As I go on I realize that the dearth of actual weapons mentioned in the article is sad and depressing. Mr. Timmerman is either very confused as to what the word weapon means, or he’s hoping that his eaders are.

I’ve not the strength to go further. I pass the torch
In short and at best, the article is inaccurate, wrong and deliberately misleading.

So, how did you vote?
Poll results:

*The current leaders of the Democratic Party are reliving their formative years by trying to refight the political issues of the Vietnam era.
(8%)

The sneak attack by Japan on Pearl Harbor, which killed fewer Americans than died in the Twin Towers, meant Japan was more threatening to mainland America than is Islamist terrorism.
(36%)

There was a Democratic president in 1941 and Republicans are more patriotic than Democrats.
(4%)

While Hitler had not attacked us, as Japan’s ally he must have been involved in the Pearl Harbor attack and fighting him too ensured support from the U.S. left to relieve the U.S.S.R., the socialist motherland.
(9%)

The current Democratic creed is: Blame America first.
(43%)*

hyjyljyj’s not coming back, is it?

Come on guys… be gentle to the OP.

Please note that he joined SDMB on 12 March 2001 with a post to Cecil about “Green Acres TV Serial”. As a Chiropractor, he has made total of 247 posts, out of which he initiated 27 threads. Almost 99% of his posts have been to GQ, mostly asking questions on his problems with his computer, or Chiropractic issues in IMHO. He has little experience with GD, and the concept of “credible references and cites”.

So, let’s be tolerent, lay back and enjoy couple of his past posts below:

Dogs licking themselves–medical reason?

This book my wife got for Xmas called Fun Facts About Dogs says it’s important for dogs to devote time to licking themselves, because if they don’t, their genito-urinary system will not function properly.

  1. Is this true? For dogs, I mean.

  2. If so, is it also true that I am now risking the dogs’ overall health unless I let them earnestly sup and lave at themselves in my presence, with full sound effects, all they want? Or are these dogs trying to slide one over on us?
    02/12/2003

  3. It is generally agreed that President Bush is “the leader of the free world”.

  4. Almost everybody who’s ever drawn a breath would PREFER to be free, if they had a choice. (I am presenting this as a priori fact, mitigated by the word ‘almost’, rather than as political opinion. People flock to free countries such as the US from all over the world, some risking and even losing their lives to do so. There must be something to it.)

  5. So, logically, the question ought not be "Why would Denmark align with the US, but rather “Why wouldn’t they?”

18 May 2002

I ALREADY spend an inordinate percentage of my waking (and probably also sleeping) hours in a desperate daily struggle to achieve a slightly greater degree of comfort in arranging my genital apparatus within my trousers. These damn kiwis and cucumber are no picnic to pack, I tell you–and I’m not overly gifted in this area of anatomy by any stretch (if you’ll pardon the pun). As if I need MORE to contend with. Thanks, but no thanks! Next time you see some guy with his forearm buried in there up to his elbow, earnestly rooting around in there like he’s searching for his car keys, you’ll know what I mean.

My wife’s extremely happy, so I’m happy, and that’s all that matters…

That rape of logic was so bad I feel violated O_o

I believe every word of it.

Problem with you guys is, you are just too damn skeptical.

I read the thread title and thought, “So they finally got around to looking in Dubya’s ass!”

How about because this is a fucking lie?

Here’s Republican candidate Dewey criticizing Democratic President Roosavelt in the middle of the war, 1944:

http://www.lancasteronline.com/pages/site/register/index.php?url=/pages/news/local/6749

Pro-war people are getting freaking desperate. Even the big guns who style themselves as straight shooters and debunkers of bullshit are buying in wholesale to gross misrepresentations of history like this. Hell, even anti-war bloggers are just assuming that it’s so that WW2 was a political non-issue. It just isn’t so.

Excellent post, way to fight ignorance.

I would also like to step out and remind people that modern Republicans aren’t exactly known for standing behind the President during times of war. Kosovo and Iraq are similar in many ways - neither posed a direct threat to America, both involved a cruel dictator who attacks his own people, both involve Muslim extremists, both were justified using intelligence largely disputed after the fact. The main difference is who is in office.

Forgot another biggie - both were fought without UN approval.

Frequently, the same arguments being used for/against one are the same ones being used for/against the other, just by the opposite people. Kinda funny, in a sad sort of way.
