Why would equating gay people being bullied with other people being bullied be “not taking something seriously” unless you thought that other people being bullied was not serious?
You can’t have it both ways. Either gay bullying is worse than other bullying, and deserving of special respect, or it is not worse and thus worthy of equal respect. You’ve already stated that you were not claiming that gay bullying was worse, therefore there is nothing remotely disrespectful about that comment.
I think I’m making pretty clear that I think gay kids who get bullied ARE deserving of some kind of special consideration (not sure why you would use the word respect here), hence why I said “I’m making the point that gay kids get their own distinct flavour of particularly nasty and concentrated bullying”. I completely accept that not ONLY gay kids get bullied badly, but on the whole we do tend to get it worse, including from our families too.
I didn’t say anywhere that gay kids didn’t get bullied worse, so I’m not clear what point you’re trying to prove.
I still don’t get why you’re getting your knickers in a knot over a bunch of people empathizing with a fictionaly story about a bullied kid. People who aren’t even gay are empathizing in a very real way.
