Okay, 'fess up. Was that intentional or not?
It’s exactly what I was wondering when I saw the title.
And I remember that thread from back in the day, but never caught how it ended. Nice that OpalCat did end up with a great solution, given how specific her needs were.
She also ended up with The Pit Thread That Had Everything.
Okay, something else caused the original pitting, but the ring thing contributed to the 800 posts before it was locked.
I wonder if I’m going to get a warning for even bringing it up…
I’m starting to get sqeamish about wearing my own wedding ring now. Degloving, ring amputations, electrical dangers, not to mention mugging target - who knew what a dangerous thing this ring was!
ISTR some company made simple rings out of a ceramic material that polished up very nicely.
They were not conductive, very tough, and if crushed too hard, they shattered rather than just staying squashed. One of the dangers of a metal ring is that if it gets squashed it STAYS squashed, doing even more harm than the original squashing force and keeping the blood from circulating until its cut off. And you aint sliding a squashed ring off. And the fact it stays squashed probably increases the chance of a degloving injury too.
Maybe the material was silicon carbide or tungsten carbide?
Back in my utility days I used to attend safety meetings with the linemen. One meeting centered on glove safety. Lineman’s gloves are made up of an inner rubber lining and an outer leather section.
A part of the lecture stressed that rings were a danger and cited a case study where The lining was compromised when a lineman’s wedding ring wore a hole smaller than the naked eye could see. It was enough that the lineman lost his life through a hole smaller than a pinhole
No, don’t. You won’t be able to sleep at night.
Reported.
Good lord. I would have expected a firefighter to write rather less like an overcaffeinated middle-school child.
It’s not a firefighter, it’s a spammer.
Damn unrecognizable zombie threads! I came here to mention what I put into post 25 until I read post 25. Off to ABTM I go! (not really)
