Dinara Safina suffers the worst loss ever (measured by difference in the rankings) by a player ranked #1. This follows upon the heels of losing to someone ranked #124.
Fortunately, unless Serena Williams manages a total meltdown of her own, Ms. Safina will be out of the #1 spot finally.

Hopefully, now that she is no longer #1, Safina can get out of her head and play some decent tennis again. I really like her and her style of play, but that girl has to be one of the biggest headcases ever to grace the WTA

She’s more disappointing than her brother, who had way more talent than he consistently showed.

Isn’t it somewhat odd that the suggestion in the link in the OP that Safina is the worst no. 1 ever and that the WTA-system is flawed is supported by evidence from that very ranking?

I’d rather not have either of them as #1. Hopefully those Official People hand down their verdict if they’re going to suspend Serena or not soon.
The women’s game is a bloody mess recently. I would not have believed that such psychological instability can be so prevalent at the top of a major international professional sport. I miss the days of Graf and Seles… (at least back then, the psychological instability was mostly limited to the fans…)
I’m guessing that a Belgian will be number one in a matter of 6 months (Henin is back in January, no?). I don’t think people realized just how much the sport would miss those two.
