So my grocery store had a new salad a couple weeks ago. I tried it. And loved it to bits. I would like to try to create it at home - or at least have a recipe to do so should the store stop selling it since it seems if I like something, it will be discontinued. The company often goes out of business, as well.
It’s an edamame salad. It’s out of this world. It’s here (top right).
They say it’s dressed with soy, miso, and ginger. I can taste them and I think some sesame, too. There must be other things in it. See the little black dots? What are they, do you think? Closest thing I could think of was kiwi seeds but I’m pretty sure there’s no kiwi in it.
So I thought I’d run this up the flagpole and see if anyone has a recipe for an edamame salad that looks like that and has miso, soy, and ginger in the dressing.
Yup. Black sesame seeds.* Here’s a recipe for an Asian edamame salad. That site has fourteen recipes using that name, but this is the first one that seems to match your description.
ETA: * I think they’re black from being toasted, but I could be mistaken…
They seemed smaller than sesame seeds but I’m buying some of the salad next week so I’ll look more closely at them. Cardamom isn’t impossible - there was more taste than I’d expect from just miso, soy, and ginger and cardamom could actually be a possibility.
Quiddity G, I have an Asian spice blend that includes sea salt, sesame seeds, pepper, fennel, coriander, garlic, onion, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and aniseed. It is from a company called Melissa’s. The flavors are both spicy and sweet and is exactly what Kroger’s uses on tofu and edamame salad in the deli here. Does this combination of flavors sound right to you?
