I’m trying to find information about the campaign in the Solomon Islands during the Second World War, in which the retreating Japanese had a fairly significant amount of casualties that were lunch for the indigenous saltwater crocodiles. As an armchair WWII historian, I’ve always been focused on the European Theatre, and now I can’t remember where I read about this.
Sorry, this usenet post was the best I could do (pretty poor, mentions an unnamed documentary, the Guiness Book of Records and a possible alternative explanation)
Well, I don’t know how I fluffed that. There’s tons of posts/sites which mention it, although it appears to have been 900-1000 Japanese soldiers in Burma. Not everyone seems to agree that it happened, though.
