In a declaration submitted in response to an order from a federal judge, Meadows said he spoke with Trump about the declassification tweets and confirmed that the president did not actually mean what he said.
Oh, sorry. I mean “Trump did not actually mean what he said”. Very different.

It seems that when Trump used the terms "“total declassification” (i.e., “no redactions”)
or
“any and all”
He meant "partial declassification (with redactions)
And
“some”
I wonder if enough people @Sam_Stone him, he’ll be more inclined to do so.

People generally don’t like to admit that they were suckered. You don’t see a lot of folks going public with the information that they sent $50K to a Nigerian prince in the hopes of getting a share of an inheritance that was held up in a Lagos lawyer’s office.
I mean, it’s just not pleasant to admit that you were fooled. But it’s good for the soul, and makes you a good person if you can prevent others from falling for the same scam. I respect people who are able to do this.

All it took was the White House Chief of Staff to publicly acknowledge (on orders from a judge) that Trump lied.
Does anyone here fucking READ? I am NOT a Trump supporter. I think he’s a terrible President. I have been bagging on him on this board for years. The difference is that I can recognize that even terrible presidents can do good things here and there. But if I ever try to mention them here, we get a shitstorm like this, and I get accused of being a Trump toady.
The problem is, the left has become completely unacceptable to me. Both here and in the U.S., the left is going completely off the rails. The spending they want to do won’t do a damned thing about climate change, but it will help bankrupt us. The attacks on the rich will reduce innovation and encourage capital flight.
Their willingness to look the other way while riots grow in in cities around the country is perhaps the single most dangerous thing they could do - in part because it gives support to people like Trump, and encourages the rise of right-wing militias.
The Internatiinal Socialists in Germany thought they’d help bring about socialism with their hardball street tactics. Instead, they facilitated the rise of the Nazis. The riots in blue cities have created millions of new gun owners, and may get Trump re-elected. Looking the other way while people in these areas (mostly minorities) have their businesses and lives destroyed is disgusting.
But I won’t debate any of this in the pit. You want to talk about nuclear power, or taxes, or the effects of riots or other issues, open a thread somewhere like Great Debates where assholes actually get punished for being assholes, and I’ll happily engage in a civil discussion. If you are so triggered you can’t handle a civil discussion without resorting to insults and character assassination, then I guess we will just forfeit the ability to learn from each other.
I’m a libertarian without a home. The libertarians have gone nuts too. I can’t support any single party any more, so I sit on the sidelines and try to make sense of it. You may notice that my posting on political topics on this board has gone to almost zero.
It’s just depressing, and it’s not helped by the fact that this board is full of people waiting for any sniff of a hated Republican so they can go on a rage fueled multi-day virtue signalling pile-on calling into question the intelligence, morals and character of another poster.

When you pop in political threads to complain about SDMB left-wing bias 50000x more then any half-hearted “both-sides” complaints against Trump’s honest-to-God nightmare administration. Yes. You will rightly be seen as supporting Trump.
Untrue. Now, I probably dislike as much as you the tying of renewable energy programs to progressive causes (the Green New Deal being the prime example), but nevertheless a switch to renewable energy will help the problem of climate change. It is not the most effective program possible, but every new wind and solar plant built will help.
This is 100% a failure of conservatives and libertarians. They have had for decades the opportunity to accept the scientific consensus and propose their own solutions to the problem. Instead, they lie and say there is no problem. There are many possible contributions that economic conservatives could make here but they have failed at every single step to even acknowledge the problem, and instead have done virtually the exact opposite of what needs to be done.
At one point I called myself libertarian, but as you note they have gone nuts as well. Or have always been nuts, being a creation of Koch brothers propaganda. Whatever–they have lost all credibility and will never get it back.
My “home” now is with centrists like Biden. The left has hardly changed at all; with the moderates like Biden not much different from past moderates like Obama or Bill Clinton. It’s the right that has turned into delusional psychopaths, and you’re here splitting the difference and acting the the left is the one going off the rails.

OK, Sam. Let’s say your intentions were altruistic, and your intention was to point out the one good thing Trump did despite otherwise being a terrible president. You didn’t exactly do that. You said if Trump’s tweet was TRUE, he successfully unearthed some dark secret concerning Biden. Was that the good thing you were referring to?
It turned out his tweet was wrong, and you said you weren’t taking up for Trump, but were considering what were essentially Bowling Green Massacre-level alternate facts.
Let me ask you something: would you keep taking your car to an unreliable mechanic because there’s a possibility he’ll actually fix it?
I suppose you didn’t read my earlier post when I asked why conservatives resort to crying that liberals are trying to destroy them whenever they’re caught lying or making erroneous assumptions. That’s exactly what you’re doing here because you can’t own up to a mistake.
Do you recognize that the “good” thing he claimed he did was to declassify documents for the purpose of harming the reputation of his political rival, during the height of election season. He wasn’t rescuing puppies, or getting much needed aid to a hard hit area of the country, he was slagging Democrats.
The reason we got on your case was because you said “He wouldn’t lie about this.” as if there was a single verifiable fact that he would fail to lie about. He lied about easily verifiable facts on his inauguration day, it was his very first public act as president, to lie about something that was obvious to everyone who wasn’t kissing his ass.
