They have arrested a suspect. I hope they have DNA evidence to be able to quickly condemn the perpetrator and clear innocent persons. With the publicity this case has received any suspect would face severe opprobrium. CNN reports that the person arrested was tried before, but not convicted, of lewd conduct with young females under the age of 14.
The DNA evidence is a match up to the man arrested:

Right. I’m VERY anti-death penalty when it comes to this guy.
They had a phone interview with his mom on the news. Looks like this guy sexually assaulted his girlfriend’s daughter as well, but was acquitted. If someone had done their job right, this murder may have been prevented. 
His mom is, of course, quite insistent that he is innocent, as he was at this first accusation as well… Listening to her, I don’t know whether to be angry at her or to pity her.
From what I heard on the John and Ken Show (radio) yesterday about this, Avila’s sister said “Oh, that exgirlfriend of his told him she’d get him, she’d get him where it hurt, because he didn’t spend enough money on her.”
Avila’s sister was saying that regarding his current arrest–the Big Bad Ex set things up to make it look like he did the unthinkable. Take off your blindfold, dear.
The county is saying nothing about the previous trial, but one could speculate this was part of the defense used. “Oh, she just made up this whole molestation thing because she’s a jealous, money-grubbing, vindictive bitch.”
FUCK that. But vindictive bitch? More than understandable.
