Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Anyone other than me considering the Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

At 5.7 inches, its screen is .2 inches larger than the Note II, a whole .2 inches larger! I need it! Heh.

Seriously, a slightly larger and much sharper screen, much better camera and camera tools, more memory, higher milliamp battery, better S pen integration with optimized applications and application interfaces, textured back cover for easier gripping of the device, etc… Overall, a substantive improvement over the Note II.

It may not be available in the US until sometime in October, but I am pretty sure this will be my upgrade.

Wow, crickets here …kets here …s here …ere.

So no one has any comments/thoughts on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

Specifically, would you consider the Note 3 in light of the new iPhone 5S and 5C just announced?

I currently have a Note 2…since I upgraded not too long ago, I haven’t paid much attention to news about the Note 3. I can say that I’m very pleased with my choice of the Note 2 over an iPhone (even the new ones). I will be rooting it as soon as it’s out of warranty though.

I love my NoteII but I’m not eligible for an upgrade yet.
I don’t check out the new phones until I’m eligible.

Not really seeing a need to upgrade from my Note 2 to a Note 3. I don’t really use the S pen for more than jotting down quick notes and mine is doing that just fine. That and I believe the Note 2 to be the best phone I have ever owned so I’m not all fired up on changing right now. Still I have been known to upgrade just to have a nice new thingy, so I’ll wait and see until I get one in my hands before I truely decide.

I long to have a great big Note phone, but my carrier (Virgin Mobile) doesn’t support them. Can’t afford to switch providers etc.

I don’t think they compare at all. The iPhones still have tiny, low-res screens (4", 640p). The Note 3 is… gigantic. It compares better with the larger Android phones like the HTC One, with a 4.7" 1080p screen. A 5.7" screen with a stylus seems pretty cool, but I don’t think it’ll fit in my pocket.

Nothing about the 3 makes me want to replace my II. With a slimline case on it, it’s got all the grippy factor and excellent protection as well. I can live without marginal improvements in screen size, resolution and cameras with a grain-of-rice lens. And if there’s an S-pen app out there worth taking the stylus out of its slot, I haven’t found it yet.

Autodesk Sketchbook. I had it on my previous, stylus-less phone; the stylus makes all the difference in the world. The interface is very stripped-down, but it’s fairly easy to learn. Plus, the free version doesn’t have ads!
