For a week or two, I’ve been getting this notification on my Samsung Galaxy A10e phone (Android 11):
Samsung account legal terms updated
Tap here to agree to the new policies
First off, I freely plead guilty to being among the 99+% of people who always accept all the legal fine print without reading much/any of it. But in my perception, the other cases are different than this one, because in other cases, I do have the option of spending my time reading all that fine print. In this case, the option is not being offered, and that worries me.
In case I wasn’t clear, I must point out that this notification is one of those messages at the very top of my screen. I can drag that part of my screen and make it larger, and it gives me access to various apps. For example, it gives me the sender and subject line of recent emails, so if I tap it, then it will bring me to my email program where I can choose to read or delete those emails.
But I am hesitant to tap this particular notification, because the whole process might end right there, with me having already agreed to the new policies. I would prefer to find the app that will show me which policies they’re referring to. There are several Samsung apps on my phone, but I never use them (at least, not knowingly), but when I go into them, they don’t say anything about new policies.
Anyone else run into this? Any suggestions what I should do or where to go?
FWIW, I tried googling the phrase “Tap here to agree to the new policies” (with the quotes), which sounds to me like a generic enough wording that it would get thousands of hits. Lo and behold, only two hits on the entire internet, both of which refer to “dank memes”, and neither of which was helpful (though one did show a great screenshot of the notification).
In contrast, if I google the phrase “Samsung account legal terms updated”, I get about 9 hits, all of which seem to be from people who are complaining that the message doesn’t go away even when they do agree to those terms!
Anyway, this is an example of why my next phone will be an iPhone. My friends here on SDMB are great, but I long to be able to walk into an Apple Store and talk to an Expert™ face-to-face, instead of looking for help on websites.
