Samuel L. Jackson's Freedomland: What did you think?

I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. There was a certain surreal feel to it. I thought Julieann Moore and Edie Falco were excellent. Sam was his usual good (but not great). It was definitely flawed, but it ended up in the “keeper” column for me. Anyone care to share their opinion?

Did he say “I’m sick of these motherfucking freedoms in this motherfucking land!” at any point?

Actually, there was a “motherfucking” something in it. I’d have been disappointed if there wasn’t.

I was disappointed in it. I’m not sure what I expected, but it certainly wasn’t the movie that I saw. It was very well made, but it wasn’t clear to me

why everyone was so sure right from the start that she was lying about the baby abduction. Certainly we’ve seen that sort of thing happen more than once in recent memory, but Jackson’s character (and others) expect her to be lying almost from the start. Why?

I think because of her history. She was a recovering addict and if you’ll remember, she didn’t mention the kid immediately. That put up a flag for me.

It wasn’t what I expected, either.

I liked it more than I thought I would, especially as seen from the Freedomland/ghetto angle, not just the missing kid story.
Having been a lonely and dating single mom in the past, I cried when she described the night he disappeared

knowing that desperation for adult closeness and companionship, and knowing a more twisted or broken mind could take it to that point.

I also watched The Forgotten that weekend.
Man, don’t let Julianne Moore babysit.
