Heck of a flick! Homeless guy, schizophrenic and delusional, solves murder mystery. I’m a big fan of Sammy Jackson (May I call you Sammy? Mr. Jackson, sir?) I mean, when it comes to “the eyeball”, there ain’t nobody like him. But, damn, the man can act like blazing shit!
“…can act like blazing shit!” Okay, officially the oddest compliment I’ve ever heard. 
I have one question about this movie though…

How the heck was SLJ getting back and forth between the city and the ranch?
I mean, the first time he goes there (for the party/recital), his bud is driving him. They go past what looks like endless stretches of farm land. This drive presumably takes a hell of a long time. Yet after being shot at by the faceless man, he’s back into town more or less instantly and can, from that point on, be in town or back at the ranch as required by the script, with no indication of how he was getting back and forth.
Now I’ll admit that this is moderately nitpicky, and I dn’t care all that much, but if you cast Sam Jackson as a schizophrenic homeless guy, you’d think there would be some great scenes of him trying to hitch a ride, no?
Well, true enough. Maybe one scene, to cover your quibble, might have been included/ But hitchhiking, I can attest, is a singularly uninteresting activity, since it mostly involves watching cars whiz past you.
A more serious flaw: the victim was frozen stretched out, but found in the tree sort of curled up. Was he thawed out, curled up, and then placed in the tree? Secondly, how the heck did the bad guy get him in the tree.
Also, it weirded me out when the big shoot out was not the end of the movie, kind of hitting the wrong button.
Still, heck of a flick.
I liked it too. Half-decent movie, but Sam - GOOD GOD!!
There were parts of that flick where I actually believed he was crazy. Just . . . chills!
Hitchhiking for us (relatively) normal fold may be hitchhiking, but for a schizophrenic, Turets syndromesque Samuel L. Jackson, however, it can probably be a movie in itself!
I imagine at least 2 cars per trek to/from the farm just because he would freak out the driver. Sure it wouldn’t help advance the plot all that much, but seeing as how half the enjoyability in the movie was seeing SLJ play his character, it probably have warranted inclusion.
Or maybe it’s just me. ::shrugs::
I liked it well enough.
I was expecting, going into it, some sort of character study of a schizophrenic. As it turns out, it was more of a thriller with a schizophrenic as a main character. Not knocking the film, I just expected something different. I would recommend it as a thriller.
While I liked Sam Jackson’s performance, there were moments when I didn’t buy it simply because it’s Sam Jackson. His performance didn’t always overcome his persona. That’s only my opinion, of course.
But when Jackson lets those vocal chords rip, watch out!
I also liked the special effects they had when showing us the Caveman’s point of view. Who would of thought colored light could be so chilling?
So I’d recommend it as an interesting thriller, but nothing more. Does anybody know how the movie compares to the book?
