Hi San Antonio 'Dopers! Maybe one of you that are familiar with all the tourist stuff downtown can help me out… I’m trying to remember the name of a gift store there, and maybe one of you San Antonians (is that right?) can tell me what it is.
It’s a souvenir type place. Say you’re standing between the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall facing east, on the east side of the little bench/park area (Guiness’ and Ripley’s museums would be to your back). There’s a row of stores between the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall. The store I’m trying to get the name of had a bunch of ceramics in the window, and it could have been a hotel gift shop – I think there was a non-street entrance in a hotel lobby. Specifically there were some large, ceramic, sombrero botaneros in the display window and some other chile-oriented ceramics.
Anyone have a clue what I’m talking about? It’d be appreciated! THANKS!
No, it’s on a very short block directly between the Alamo and Rivercenter. It’s the part of Rivercenter where the entrances are also outside, kind of like a pedestrian alley. The Rivercenter stores in this alley-like area include a Tabasco store and some store with nothing but Cat-themed stuff. So if you take the shortest route from this part of Rivercenter to the Alamo, heading north, you’ll pass on the sidewalk belonging to this one-block row of shops, the shops being on your right.
That’s the location of the old Holiday Inn Alamo - neat hotel. Right at Bonham and East Crockett, between the Alamo grounds and Rivercenter - and it faces west. Give them a call, and I’m sure the staff could identify the shop you’re asking about. I think they own most of the property in that block.
