San Diego on business

I’ll be going to San Diego on business 8/19 - 8/22. I’ve never been there before. I’ll be working during the day, but I’ll have 3 nights free. Any reccomendations for things to do at night? I’ll have a car. Looking for good restaurants, maybe some live music, etc.

The Gaslamp Quarter’s pretty cool.

Thanks Leaffan. So, what… are there no San Diego dopers? Or do you just not want me drinking all your booze? :dubious:

Go to Pacific Beach, drink Red Trolley and look at the “scenery.”

“Good restaurants” is pretty subjective. What kind of food do you want? What with this crazy Obamalocation shit, I can’t quite tell where you’re from - is Mexican food a draw for you? You may want to head to Old Town and go to one of the restaurants there (my favorite in that neighborhood is Old Town Mexican Cafe, but everyone has their own ideas), but for the true “San Diego tourism” Mexican experience, I always like Casa de Pico. It’s out in La Mesa, which isn’t central, but I think it’s a fun place for a meal.

My favorite restaurant in San Diego is The Linkery, so I always have to plug that. It’s on 30th and University in North Park. They make their own sausages, but they also feature a lot of local meat & produce, and have an extensive beer & wine selection. Not the cheapest meal, but not fancy and pretentious either.

Thanks scout122. I’m in Charlotte, by the way. I love Mexican food and that’s at the top of my list. I haven’t had real good Mexican since I left NYC, and even then… I’ll be staying in Del Mar, but with a car I figure I can get wherever I need to go.

You’ll probably even find good stuff in Del Mar - especially if you’re into nicer meals. Unfortunately I don’t know that area well to give you any really good recommendations.

One I can give for breakfast (which you may or may not have free) is Ki’s. It’s on Coast Highway in Cardiff - which is a little north of Del Mar. Lots of healthy and vegetarian options, and you can sit on their second floor patio and look out at the ocean.

Head into Old Town. There are several nice Mexican places there. Then hit the Gaslamp the next night. Too bad the Padres are on a road trip that week. Otherwise you could go see the worst team in the NL.

Yeah, I checked the Padres schedule. Always like to visit staidums I haven’t been to before. Ocean view stuff sounds good. I’ve been inland too long…
