Sanford defeats Colbert's sister

I think it’s probable she would have.

What did Colbert-Busch offer the voters besides being Stephen Colbert’s sister? That’s not a very good reason for voting for anyone.

There’s that too. she also ran as Sanford-lite, rather than a Democrat. Democrats really had no reason to vote for her other than that she wasn’t a Republican.

I read that she outspent Sanford by a margin of something like five to one.

Specifically, Ken Rudin said this about the election, “I was just going to say, but you know something, yes maybe God had something to do with it, but he out-worked her. He campaigned very, very hard. And Elizabeth Colbert Busch did not. She was not very fluent on the issues. She did not get out and talk to the folks. Sanford was everywhere. He was omnipresent. And she did not campaign as she could have, and perhaps she was the wrong candidate at the wrong time.”

(Bolding and resizing added on a whim.)

Sounds like maybe Colbert-Busch believed that everyone would think that she was as much a gift to the voters as she thought she was. Surprise!

I wonder if this is how her brother’s comedy PAC money was spent? Kick starting his sister’s losing campaign?

That is not how Stephen Colbert spent the money from his super PAC. Donorschoose.org’s Sandy relief fund, Team Rubicon’s Sandy outreach, and Habitat for Humanity and The Yellow Ribbon Fundeach received $125,000, and the rest of the money went to the Center For Responsive Politics and the Campaign Legal Center.

Poster seems to be one of those libertarians (classical liberals) who is still battling for the title of true “Liberal” with the social democrats and progressives.

Stephen Colbert said that Stephen Colbert donated the money to charity.

The Washington Post reported that Stephen Colbert donated the money to charity based on Stephen Colbert statement.

Is there any “other” proof that the money actually went to these charities?

What other proof do you need? Are you suggesting a vast conspiracy to funnel about a million dollars to his sister’s campaign fund? Are you insane?

Yes, he filed a form with the FEC that terminated the PAC after he gave away all the money. But other than the official disclosure and the broadcasts and news reporting, the public acknowledgement from the groups that received the money from the Super PAC, and the lack of evidence that Colbert Busch received any money from the Super PAC, there’s practically no evidence he gave that money to charity instead of giving it to his sister.

I asked a simple question. See Marley23’s response for a more informed, better formulated response. Why are you so bitter? Have you ever considered professional help? Do you think you’re posting in the “Pit”?

All right… all right… but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order… what have the Romans done for us?

Knock it off, both of you.

Of course you could have looked for the answer yourself before implying something untoward was going on, but…

Seriously? So now this is all a conspiracy of some sort too? Get a life.

And frankly, even if that were true…isn’t that the whole point of Citizens United? Why is it something suspicious if a liberal superPAC does it instead of a conservative one?

I’m pretty sure that the charities mentioned by Colbert would have been quick to point out that they never got the money, were it the case. It’s just more bullshit.

See the mod note above.

It’s easy to post unsupported random accusations on the Internet, but it’s also usually not that hard to find facts. OpenSecrets.org on Colbert Busch and Sanford’s fundraising.

Note, please, that my post was a conditional. IF it were true. I don’t believe that it’s true, I’m just saying that even IF it were true, the GOP was ecstatic over Citizens United and that’s what Citizens United was ABOUT.
