Soapparently Santorum said in Missouri that in the Netherlands that old people wear bracelets saying “please don’t euthanise me”, that 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands are euthanasia and that half of those are not voluntary.

I don’t believe he’s so stupid that he believes that 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands are euthanasia. But he thinks other people are.
But if he believes it, wouldn’t someone with bad intentions have told him the false statistics? Like an advisor? I mean, attributing it to sheer stupidity is all very well, but surely he would’ve noticed if he just made up statistics.

He didn’t make it up. According to the linked article it was an existing urban myth. He probably heard it from someone who got it in an email forward.
I’d prefer that the President of my country did not base his thoughts on urban myths. Maybe that’s just me.

Yes, of course. I see no reason that hooks hanging off car doors cannot be investigated at the local level by a fat sheriff walking up the stairs in a dark and abandonded house.

I blame global warming. Back in the day we had enough ice floes to send the elderly off on when they got too old to be useless. Now the ice has all melted and we have to keep the fogies around, draining the Social Security budget and driving in the left lane with their blinker on.
When I feel that way, I just remind myself that retirement pensions are the conduit through which young, working Americans in the other states subsidize Florida’s economy. 
I personally have no problem at all believing Santorum himself is that stupid. Is there any evidence to believe otherwise?
