Santorum on gay marriage.

“I would argue that the future of our country hangs in the balance because the future of marriage hangs in the balance,” said Sen. Rick Santorum, a leader in the fight to approve the measure. “Isn’t that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?”

So our “homeland security” now depends on not allowing gays to marry?

Nice job, Rick. I’m sure the families of the 9/11 victims will be glad to know your plan for secuirng the homeland involves not allowing gays to marry.

Just how low can a guy sink?

I’m confused how the embrace of marriage is a threat to marriage. Doesn;t the desire of gay people to wed strengthen marriage? Isn’t the real threat to marriage hetero couples who live together without it? Shouldn’t Sen. Frothy Mix of Lube and Fecal Matter go after hetero non-married scofflaws like Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins if he wants to “preserve marriage”?

gobear, there is no point arguing with such rhetoric. Note how it appeals to fear. I don’t even know if he believes the bigotry he spouts or if he’s just a normal politician preying on human weakness and fear.

The distinguished junior senator from Pennsylvania has a history of saying stupid, bigoted things - this is hardly news. If something conflicts with his Christian Right ideals it is obviously wrong, and those who support it are evil perverts who want to destroy America.

Someone please let me know- How the fuck did Santorum get elected? Were all those with an IQ over 2 banned from voting?

IF YOU’RE NOT WITH US YOU’RE AGAINST US. IT’S COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATIVSM! THE ONLY REASON THAT THIS COUNTRY AND ANY OF ITS CITIZENS EXIST IS TO GET MARRIED TO SOMEONE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX AND HAVE CHILDREN. REAGAN’S GOD’S MAN FOR PRESIDENT!* BIN LADEN IS OUT THERE AND DESPITE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY, I HAVE SECRET INFORMATION THAT I CAN’T SHARE WITH YOU THAT HUSSEIN HAS WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION>>>>>NO, WHAT I MEANT WAS THAT “THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ SHOULD BE SAFER.” LET’S ROLL!

*[SUB]…told to me before the '84 election, I just thought that it fit here.[/SUB]

Somebody has to do it.

Well, this is no ordinary guy. It’s Rick Santorum. So I don’t think that instruments exist that can determine the depths.

Depths, I must add, that I in no way wish to plumb.

[/quote]

Well, despite his small-minded bigotry, I wouldn;t mind plumbing Rick Santorum’s depths. He’s handsome. lookslike he has good body., and given that he is prone to making hysterical pronouncements about the fatal lure of homosexuality, I can’t help but think he might be curious.

Yeh, well, gobear, just be sure you’ve got plenty of barrier protection. Og only knows what kind of disease you might catch from his head.

I heard Santorum say that if gays were allowed to get married, then somehow this would cause marriage to become meaningless to heterosexuals (I mean, more meaningless than it already is). He said something like, “They’ll still copulate, but they won’t get married!” There are strange things writhing around in the Senator’s head.

In this whole gay marriage battle, I’ve not once seen a good explanation for how gay marriage is a threat to straight marriage, let alone our country’s future.

gobear: While there are those who fear “catching” gay, I quake in terror at what you might get from Rick.

Looks as if the measure failed to pass. Voting was a lot closer than I like, though..

Personally, I’m thrilled. There was never a chance it would get the necessary 60 votes, but as recently as yesterday afternoon, the news coverage indicated the Republicans would probably get a majority. As it turns out, they didn’t even do that.

Anyway, props to Trunk for this thread. If not for Rick Santorum, who would be standing up against the Pink Menace? Gays a threat to homeland security. Oy. I wonder how many other Republicans are more concerned about protecting us from them than from the real terrorists.

Just for the hell of it, here are the Republicans that voted against it:
[ul]
[li]Campbell (R-CO)[/li][li]Chafee (R-RI)[/li][li]Collins (R-ME)[/li][li]McCain (R-AZ)[/li][li]Snowe (R-ME)[/li][li]Sununu (R-NH)[/li][/ul]
And here are the Democrats that voted for it (!?! ):
[ul]
[li]Byrd (D-WV)[/li][li]Miller (D-GA)[/li][li]Nelson (D-NE)[/li][/ul]

Head?

Sure, haven’t you heard of Al Gayda? Cross us and we redecorate your house.

I believe Senator Santorum should give a call to Mark Bingham’s parents and explain just how discriminating against gays will keep us safe from terrorists. Mark Bingham, by the way, was a passenger on the flight that crashed into the Pennsylvania field on 9-11. He was also gay and, according to reports from onboard, may have been involved in the attempt to disarm the terrorists.

Had things gone according to karma, the plane would have still crashed in Pennsylvania, it just would have landed on Mr. Santorum’s house while he was in it.

Couple of points here.

[li]I would probably give one of my balls to have McCain rather than Bush right now.[/li][li]This was a lot more partisan that I like (although I am glad to see that some Republicans broke rank.[/li][/ol]
