Just saw Santorum’s concession speach.
Does happy dance
(But who will Dan Savage make fun of now?)

Frothy fun!!
And Eliot Spitzer is going to be gov of New York. Oh you lucky lucky sods!!
I can’t believe I’m grinning so. I fully expected to be depressed and gloomy this evening.
You know, even if the Democrats don’t take over outright I think that the people have spoken. Finally.
And Blackwell and K Harris getting their asses kicked! Wheeeee!
Have to say it seems to be a good night so far (ah, where was this thinking in 2004???)
From [url=]this article from the Guardian describing Santorum’s opponent, Casey:
"He’s pro-life, and supports efforts to overturn Roe v Wade. He opposes gay marriage, and is against giving mandatory equal rights to same-sex domestic couples. He was for the war in Iraq, though he says he now considers it a mistake, and is opposed to the withdrawal of US troops. He opposes gun control, supports the death penalty, and backed the appointment of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. "
Is there much difference?
sadly no.
I would have voted for a third party candidate had one been on the ballot.
Yes. The difference is the same as the difference between Bush and Kerry. He’s not Santorum, and right now that’s quite good enough.
I’m just glad I’m not getting anymore goddamned pre-recorded political phone calls. Joe Piscopo is a d-list moron who can go crawl back into obscurity. After four calls in one day from that creep I hope he spends the rest of his days being tortured by telemarketers.
sigh
I’ll give you that. Sadly. I’m the one who put up the donky and elephant poster fucking each other with the “NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE” line.
But I’d like to believe Casey doesn’t equate being gay with fucking dogs.
So a bit of a step up there.
I almost felt like vomiting when I voted for him, but he’s the lesser of two evils and doesn’t have that unsightly R after his name.
Yeah, but George “Macaca” Allen is still winning, ahead by about 30,000 votes with 96% reporting.
The defining issue was apparently gay marriage on the ballot. Bleh. Allen is almost as much of a disgrace to the Republican party as Kathleen Harris.
Quick update: Don’t count Webb out yet; he just pulled the gap down to a hair under 10,000 votes, and 3% of the precincts have yet to report.
This is going to get really interesting really fast.
CNN has Webb with 99% reporting by a mere 2,500 votes or so.
That one is going in for some serious recounts.
Man, just think how miserable it will be if control of the Senate ends up resting on a few thousand votes in Virginia. Especially now that people have shut up about Florida in 2000.
Recounts galore, and bitching about absentee ballots, and voter intimidation, and Allen’s robocalls. It’ll never end.
All right, I went through the entire list of Virginia counties, and looked at each one that had less than 100% of the vote in; I can’t do much about rounding errors. Presuming that each one continues its trend of Webb over Allen and vice versa (and the former was more common), I ended up Webb gaining an additional 8900 votes, Allen with 6900 votes. This leaves approximately 7500 votes not accounted for (adding the overall votes for all three and dividing by .99 [the current percentage] gives the total number of votes), so it remains a statistical tie. It would probably remain so even if percentages of received votes were reported to three figures, snd that would also make this much more of a pain in the ass to do.
Last Virginia recount took until dec.22. Hold tight.
So what will Santorum do with his life now? Maybe run for man-on-dogcatcher?
