Sarah Palin: American law should be based on "God of the Bible and the Ten Commandments"

We used to call them on Friday nights.
Everbody else went to the football games.

If you don’t ignore her, she won’t go away.

If you ignore her, she won’t go away.

'Cos she does what oracles have historically always done: spouts a bunch of incomprehensible gibberish that, to the extent it can be coherently parsed, is pretty much guaranteed to lead the listener to a conclusion at odds with observed reality? :dubious:

Quite correct.
The word for “persons who trade sexual favors for diamond rings” is Wife.

Quite correct.

What was the term for a guy who never had a date?

OK, Let’s look at the 10 Commandments and see if they are a good base for American law:

*ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’ *Seems to violate the 1st ammendment, but even if it didn’t, I’m not sure how to make that into a law.

*TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’ *This doesn’t seem to work too well either. I don’t think we want to put people in jail because they draw a picture of a horse or make a sculpture do we? What would all the WASPs do without their lawn jockeys?

*THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’ *Seems to be a problem with the first amendment too.

*FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’ *I guess we could prohibit work and play from Fri to Sat sunset, but it cuts into HS and College football.
*FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ *Not sure how to make this a law, can we prosecute people who vote against Social Security and Medicare?

*SIX: ‘You shall not murder.’ *OK, this is a good one.

*SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ *Not sure that Newt Gingrich, Reagan, and McCain would get behind this. Would the general public go along?

*EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal.’ *Another good one.

*NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’ *Look out Sara, your death panel cracks might send you to jail.

*TEN: ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’*Is this a good basis for law? Seems kinda broad. I don’t think any country has ever made a law prohibiting coveting.

So out of the 10 commandments we are left with laws against murder and theft, and one that could apply to perjury and blackmail. Are any of those unique to Judeao-Christian tradition? I’m pretty sure the Greeks and Romans prohibited murder and theft.

I don’t think the 10 commandments are really that good a basis for US law, do you? I am leaning towards the 9th commandment though. It could pretty much lock up the entire Fox Network.

Y’all’s got your Palin-speak translators turned off. In Palin-code the “Ten Commandments” is really only talking about one commandment. A commandment that, in her very specific worldview, may have been compromised by a certain United States Supreme Court opinion handed down some 35 years ago.

Are Musselmen a kind of very clingy Deep One ?

Love it!!

Not only could we devote a whole thread to conservatives bearing false witness, we could devote a whole website.

Already been done.

Who the fuck are you people talking to on this board? I’m not aware of any conservative here who defends Palin. If you’re just ranting about all of the attention she gets, blame the media, and not just FOX either.

She is an attractive woman who is an idiot and should have used up her 15 minutes a long time ago. Get over it.

It’s not like Fox hired her, or sponsored the Tea Party events, they’re exactly like the rest of the media. Not sure why they keep insisting that they are different, though.

Lots of conservatives pop in to defend Palin, often with reason. There is a tendency to post point-and-laugh threads (despite it being the Pit, not all is a venomous rant), and sometimes the subject of the particular mocking isn’t really all that justified.

Of course, in this case, pointing and laughing (or shuddering in horror at the number of people who share her warped views on this subject) is veritably unassailable.
Anyone hear that Palin is licensing a new book?

I say “licensing” because

She needs a ghostwriter to help her do a cut and paste book from stuff that other people wrote?

I guess she needs somebody to decide what writings have inspired her. It’s not like she’s actually going to read any of that crap herself.

I find it amusing that the ad after the first post of the page is for Sarah Palin endorsing some other twit who’s running for something.

It’s a hard job narrowing them down; she’s read “all of them”.

You know, the Ten Commandments are (allegedly) God’s rules for us. If we make them our rules for us, aren’t we kind of playing God?
