I thought the entire brouhaha over the cheat sheet on her hand was because they weren’t supposed to have notes. Otherwise she would just have done what every other normal person does and used notes.
The Daily Show got that one wrong. They joked about it, but did not appear to be aware that the story was false. I’m curious as to whether you’re ever going to acknowldge that yourself. Obama did not use a teleprompter to address the kids. Do you acknowledge this or don’t you?
Jesus H. Christ, enough with the attempted hijacking already. If you want to talk about teleprompters or Jon Stewart instead of the actual subject of this thread, how about starting one of your own?
Sheesh.
The teleprompter meme is so strong among the tea partiers that Sarah Palin was forced to deliver her $100,000 speech mumbling into a podium. She spent more time with her head down than she did looking at the audience. Many times the microphones were barely able to pick up her voice.
The continued support of Palin reminds me of some posters here. No matter how badly their arguments get skewered by facts, they feel that if they can keep the conversation going, they somehow don’t lose.
OK, I am a liberal member of the SDMB, and I regularly read the Sarah Palin threads for that delicious train-wreck sensation, but I have noticed that, while our conservative brethren defend Palin against (some of) the attacks against her, I don’t believe any of them have ever said that they would vote for her for a national office.
Is that the case? Starving Artist? Bricker? Beuller? Anyone? Anybody out there who is willing to say “Sarah Palin would make an excellent political leader for this great country of ours?”
For the record, I believe that Sarah Palin is of average intelligence, but is in no way, shape, or form prepared for a political campaign on a national field, or to serve in a national office. I personally doubt that she will ever again run the one or attempt the other, but will remain content to be a “pundit” or “personality,” giving speeches to cheering crowds who would not, in the end, ever vote for her if she ran for anything.
Well, the notes on her hand corresponded exactly to the question that she was asked; almost as if she knew in advance what he was going to say. Visible notes might have looked a little suspicious.
He’s a liberal hypocrite. We all are, pretty much, except for you. You are the conservative gadfly who exposes the hypocrisy of the left with trenchant wit and Swiftian humor. You are our very own Mallard Fillmore, a cross between Dennis Miller and Wilford Brimley.
We done now?
Agreed. Too many tangents by the usual suspects… :dubious:
It would appear that neither you nor Face Intentionally Left Blank have read my response in post #40 to Lobohan.
I am on record several times as having said that I don’t believe Palin is seriously considering a run for national office. I also think she is most effective doing exactly what she is: functioning as a lightening rod for conservative values and frustration over the way things have been going in this country the last few decades, and inspiring conservatives to feel they have a voice and to get out and vote. Pretty much the same thing Rush Limbaugh does but without the “kiss my ass, liberal douchebags” attitude that Limbaugh projects. I predicted both her current speechifying activities and upcoming cable talk show at the time she resigned her governorship. Again, IMO she functions best, and is most valuable to the conservative movement (and yes, there is one and it’s growing all the time), by doing just what she is, and it’s my hope that she will continue doing that for the foreseeable future.
I do not see a future for Palin in holding political office; she exhibits little interest in gaining the knowledge and experience she’d need in order to function well once in office, and I haven’t seen much evidence of the necessary drive either. Frankly, I feel she is probably as smart as Barbara Boxer or Diane Feinstein, and could probably function just as well as they do on that level, but she lacks the drive and determination and willingness to turn her life over to it that that kind of career requires and which Boxer and Feinstein have done.
Defending Palin in a thread created to belittle her is considered off-topic now?
Love him. Funny. I never watched The Daily Show before him, now I catch him once or twice a week. Now, go ahead, “Gotcha Media”, with that “devastating” clip of Stewart making fun of Obama using a teleprompter at the school. Wait, let me help you.
Weak sauce, dude. An easy joke for a comedian doesn’t equal the hour+ Obama stood naked in the republican lion den. Palin couldn’t even do it for ten minutes in front of Katie Couric. Besides, as ppl have tried to show you, both in this thread, and in at least one other, you’re wrong about that. The teleprompter was used to speak in front of the cameras for a prepared statement. Why do you cling to that? You’re wrong when you say he’s helpless without a teleprompter, and even if you weren’t, every politician uses them. Many look like idiots even when they use them.
You know, if you can’t admit when you’re wrong, there’s no point in debating anything with you. Also, if you can’t admit to yourself when you’re wrong, you’re never going to progress as a person.
I think Starv has admitted his error. Blink and you’d have missed it, but it’s there.
You have got to be kidding me! He’s asked a simple question about whether he and his wife have time to watch movies, and he’s apparently so deeply dishonest that he feels compelled to wing it and pretend that he’s seen a movie that he’s only barely aware of, stutters and stammers for what seems like an eternity before finally pretending to have seen it, then refers to the movie as a “program” and then finally stammers out a lame prediction that it will win an Oscar.
Joe Biden doesn’t know much about movies. This is good. Shows that he’s busy. Rather than look out of touch, he tried winging it without much success.
Sarah Palin thinks that schools should “teach the controversy” between evolution and intelligent design. This shows that she’s a fucking idiot who doesn’t know how to weigh evidence.
And besides, if you want to see stuttering and stammering just rewatch the Katie Couric interview.
Well, I will now, I had no idea she did it naked.

And besides, if you want to see stuttering and stammering just rewatch the Katie Couric interview.

Defending Palin in a thread created to belittle her is considered off-topic now?
No. That is fair game. I’m referring to things like the discussion of John Stewart, for example. I don’t see the relevance.

To be fair to Palin, you cannot trot out Biden to belittle her. He’s the boob who fudged his resume 20+ years ago during his presidential run.
He is pure jackass.
Asserting discipline and direction on the Boards is good training if you are considering a career as a cat herder.
I can’t see her running in 2012. She’s had some time now to get up to spped on the issues and she’s only fractionally less clueless than she was when running in 2008. It seems to be a point of pride with her that she doesn’t need to know anything because she has “commonsense”. I think they’ll try and turn her into a right wing Oprah on Fox and hope that over a few years they can create an edifice that looks like it could handle the top job in time for the 2016 or 2020 auctions. They’ve got the right guy at Fox to do it. Roger Ailes took over looking after Richard Nixon when his first go at the presidency blew up (just after the “you won’t have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore” speech) and turned him into an electable candidate.

an outline is pretty much all Palin was using when delivering her speech.
Cite? She appeared to be reading the speech from a transcript on her podium. The cribnotes on her hand were for a Q&A afterwards. Her answers were also insubstantial platitudes and bumper sticker slogans given to an extremely friendly audience. Let’s see her stand up flatfooted and take an hour and a half of questions from a hostile roomful of opposition party Congressmen the way Obama did.
