And for as long as it lasts, here’s footage of the swimsuit portionof that event.
As an added bonus, I give you an on topic editorial about Sarah Palin by Kathleen Parker. Seems the bubble really has burst.

She’s the “Hotlips” Houlihan of contemporary politics.
The Sarah Palin / Miss Teen South Carolina super heavyweight championship. You be the judge.

Have some free yuks!
Guess that makes John McCain the Frank Burns.

Yeah. That works.
He’s more of a Henry Blake, isn’t he?
No, Henry Blake just wanted to be left alone to putter away, wanted everyone to play nice or not make him do anything. Frank had the idea that he knew better than everyone else, and that he should be in charge. Frank is perfect.
I don’t see that. Henry was a good guy, laid back and generous … just a tad befuddled.
Unless you mean the crashing thing.
And Guilliani as Klinger! The parallels are eerie!
Eek, no. I was thinking more a clueless guy who loves the younger ladies and is managed by people who are younger and smarter.
But Henry was uncomfortable with being in charge. Frank wanted to be in charge. Henry was a good guy. Frank was ambitious beyond his skill level.
Edited to add: and Frank, too, was a cheating husband, cheating w/a trashy blonde younger woman.
Eh, Hotlips was many things, but ‘trashy’ wasn’t one of them.
Now, Nurse Kellye, on the other hand …
No. Unlike Frank, Hotlips was always reasonably competent. Of course you mean the early Hotlips, not the later Margaret.
trashy in the “sleeping with a married man” (or two or three) sense.
Ouch – that was brutal!
Another batch here, including this gem:
Sarah is so concerned about relating to the average person (forget foreign policy). Here’s an in interesting editorial in the NY Times.

Now I ask, if your daughter was raped and you got billed for a rape kit by the same authorities that were suppose to solve and prosecute the crime, how would you feel?
I am starting to feel bad for her, but why in Christ’s name didn’t she turn McCain down?
She’s a hot chick from a small town in Alaska. She’s had plenty of practice in telling desperate men “No.”
Must…resist…tacky…straight line…must…resist…
Don’t fight it. Turn it loose!
No, man. My personal messages queue is pretty much restraining orders as it is.
She didn’t blink. She is one of those people that feels strongly God drives her life (and I’m sure she drives it as well) - so when someone offers you something like this, you see the hand of God. Its nearly blasphemous to turn down God when he presents these opportunities.
