Here’s the thing on Sarasota: although I’d certainly prefer this to be in Tampa (or St Petersburg, or anywhere north of the big bridge), I’m fine with Sarasota. BUT (and it’s a big butt) as far as I know, we have no actual Dopers that currently reside in Sarasota. So we can meet in Sarasota, but we can’t actually advocate or scout where to meet, more people are likely to end up lost, etc. If someone is willing to organize, from a Sarasota perspective, that’s fine and dandy, and I’ll be there with bells on.
If we decide to meet in Tampa or St Pete there are a plethora of places we can meet and it’s a smidge easier, methinks. It also makes it easier if any of the numerous Orlandopers makes the trip out.
I think it’d be good to have this in a place where we can expect maximum doperage. If that’s Tampa, then I’m all for Tampa and it being a Saturday afternoon/evening thing.
I think Tampa on Saturday sounds like the best plan. I may have to work Friday night so sometime during the afternoon-evening would be perfect. What kind of a day are we planning? In May, I vote for no-outdoors or anywhere without really really good air conditioning.
I don’t know Tampa as well as Shibb or Bear, so as far as location scouting I’ll leave it to them because I’m on the other side of the bridge.

If we do a Saturday thing in Tampa, then it would be on June 3rd. So, we talking a mid to late afternoon into evening thing? Maybe meeting up at a nice restaurant/bar place would be good. I’d appreciate suggestions since I’d need to make sure I have a hotel reservation somewhere close by and all. No biggie for me to make a reservation I just need to have an idea of where we’ll be meeting up so I can.
I just spent a week in St Petersburg darn it. Now y’all are having a get together. Avoid Newk’s restaurant in downtonw Tampa. Shells in Madeira Beach was really good as was Crabby Bills in St Pete Beach. Of course so was sitting on the beach waching the snset over the Gulf from Fort Desota. And driving over the Sunshine something or else bridge at night. Wish I could be there.
Saturday Night? oooooh The Castle, anyone? That takes care of the last half hour of Saturday night and into Sunday morning for those of you who can handle it. . .
Ok, so for real I will be in Sarasota May 31, June 1 and June 2. I am open to a Saturday dopefest in either Sarasota or Tampa. Is there still any interest or should I just slink in and out of Sarasota unnoticed and unloved? Does guilt work? Anybody wanna get together?
I have learned that The Boy’s end of the season baseball party will be June 2 (at Legends Field in Tampa, if anyone is interested in attending). So Friday night is now a bit of a miss for me, at least early on Friday. Saturday should be just fine.
We must all band together to stroke Swampy’s, um, ego – yeah, anything else is stroked at your own risk.

Shibb Saturday would suit me just fine. Should I appoint you as fearless leader so we can get a meet up place/whatever? I assume most folks would like this to be a dinner and drinks kinda thing since that’s what most dopefests seem to be. Any really good place(s) you know of? The presence of dopers would, of course, make it the coolest place in town.
Can’t you get there a little early? You’re missing Memorial Day weekend and some prime beach partying and rum runners. . .
