Satanists propose monument to the Dark Lord on Oklahoma State Capitol grounds

If said icon was put basically to prove an idiotic point, sure.

Who gets to make that judgment? I don’t see it as any more idiotic than putting up the 10 Commandments under the pretext that they are the basis for our current laws.

Since you’ve already made that judgement I gather than you will concur in saying: each person does.

I think putting up Christian-themed items on public property is done to make a point that the people who did it think that everyone else should be Christian, and think turnabout is more than fair if they’re going to be that disingenuous about respecting the separation of church and state. Because putting up the 10 Commandments and claiming that it’s the basis of our laws is seriously trolling.

The difference is, I don’t see allowing everything to be put up and us descending into a madness of constant mockery and disdain to be any sort of solution. I would much rather none of it be allowed on public property than any(or all) of it.

The proposed statue has led to some controversy within the Satanic community.* The old-school LaVay crew doesn’t think they should have pulled kids into it. On reflection, I’m inclined to agree, notwithstanding routine presentation of infant Jesus in creches. I acknowledge that creating the perfect monument to Lucifer involves substantial creative challenge. Anyway, I’ve decided to withhold my support from this project. Not that I necessarily would have contributed anyway: I’m more of kickstarter kind of guy.
