satellite/DVD burner/PC tec question

This is NOT to start another p2p/file-sharing debate. I’m looking for system help ONLY!

I own a Compaq 2.2gHz PC running XP. I have a Memorex DVD burner I installed and obviously a satellite feed.

How exactly would I rout the signal to the PC to record the show/movie to watch on the home theater? Is it better (I assume) to save the signal to hard disk, then burn it? I know of video cards that support S-Video, but would also need audio feed.

I would appreciate any suggestions on video/tv cards as well as software to convert the signal to a format so the disk can be played on a DVD player.

Like I said, this isn’t about copyright issues, my VCR does the same thing I’m asking about

You need either a TV Tuner card (Get a good one that can capture at atleast 640x480), or a video card with video in.

You’ll also need a wire that connects from your satellite box to your sound card (unless you get a tv tuner card).

You’ll also need a software package to capture the video. I reccommend:

Pinnacle video studio 8, MGM Video Wave 5 (from Roxio), or the freeware Virtual Dub.

Thanks, I’ll look into those
