Would have been a more interesting hypothetical maybe if it had been “Save 20,000 lives at a cost of taking people’s freedom to be gay away from them” instead of “Save 20,000 lives from a bomb, or an order of magnitude more lives from suicide”. That pretty much guarantees that anyone who’d opt for the wrong choice must be a *hell *of a homophobic bigot.
Who says there’s an outright wrong or right choice? I think there’s merits to both sides, and I didn’t write the hypothetical in an attempt to root out homophobes anyway.
ETA: Also, Merneith gave an excellent, non-homophobic argument for saving the town.
And in a good hypo, BOTH choices suck. You just have to decide which is suckier.
