I’m going crazy trying to figure out the name of this piece of classical music. It starts out with two very fast sequences of notes . . . dadadada . . . . (pause) . . . . dadadada . . . . then the music begins in earnest, high but descending in an up-down sort of way–gah, I can’t communicate in orchestraspeak. Anyway, I believe you can hear this piece in IBM’s e-business commercial where the guy goes to the shrink and tells him about being chased by all those “tough customers” in the white masks. I believe this piece is also in that anger management movie with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler (I’ve not seen the movie, just the commercial). This is also one of the pieces of music that shows up from time to time in the old Warner Bros. cartoons. The image I most associate this piece of music with is Bugs Bunny rubbing something–a plant growth formula?–into Elmer Fudd’s head.
Please help me. I don’t know why I need to know this piece of music so badly–there are thousands of other pieces of music I don’t know the names to. Perhaps if one of you genius music lovers tells me the name I can go buy the CD and use it to blast that intro out of my head.
Thanks so much in advance.
And if nobody can help me in the next day or so, well, my next post will probably be sent to you from a padded room somewhere.
I checked out the trailer for Anger Management, and sure enough, it contains a snippet of the overture from The Barber of Seville. Also the “Habañera” from Carmen, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “19th Nervous Breakdown,” but I think we can rule out those last two…
Welcome to my shop, let me cut your mop, let me shave your crop… daintily!
…
How about a nice close shave, teach your whiskers to behave. Lots of lather, lots of soap, please hold still don’t be a dope!
Considering that I just listened to the Overture from the Barber of Seville a little while ago, I’d say that’s probably it. Although Skillet38 is correct, there is one more “da” in each of the opening two measures. It starts out: "dadadaDAda (pause)dadadaDAda (pause) dadadaDADA…dadada…daDADADA. (with the capitalized DAs being more emphatic that the others.
As always, I’m amazed at how one can go to the SDMB, ask a question with little information, and quickly receive a correct answer. Thanks a lot–you guys and gals rock!
I thought I recognized the correct answer after the first couple posts to this thread, but I had to wait until today to download a couple music files (legally) to be sure. Yes, the answer is in fact the overture from the Barber of Seville. I guess the confusion over the number of da-das comes from the fact that what I mistook for the beginning of the thing is actually several minutes in.
Anyway, thanks a lot, y’all. I was going crazy.
Now if my wife ever comes home from her shopping expedition, I can go out and by me a Rossini CD (assuming I still have any money left).
Whaaat would you want with a wabbit?
Can’t you see that I’m much sweeter?
I’m your little senoriter.
Geeee, you’re my kind of guy!
Let me straighten your tie, then I will dance for you…
