Save those CD's!

Your house is on fire. Unfortunately, you only have time to save 5 CD’s from your collection. Forget the couch, forget the clothes, the CD’s are the only things that make it. So, which 5 CD’s that you own are the only ones you deem worthy of saving?
Mine?
1 - Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Greatest Hits 1
2 - Tom Petty’s Greatest Hits
3 - Jimi Henxdrix Greatest Hits
4 - De La Soul is Dead
5 - Great Classical Music Sampler

I figure I get to save my favorite groups and keep a little bit of diversified music based on my mood.

Ring of the Niebelungen

Ick… I’d be caught trying to lug the computer out. I’d hate to rebuild my mp3 collection.

  1. Def Leppard - Any of them
  2. Joe Satriani- All of them
  3. Alice Cooper- Trash
  4. Dream Theater - First Two
  5. whatever else caught my eye.

I’d be tossing the CCR into the fire.

No cassettes or LP’s? Well, then…

Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
Sting - Brand New Day
Cheap Trick - Greatest Hits
Simon and Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
Adam Ant- Antics in the Forbidden Zone
You know, this is not fair. I can carry way more than 5 CD’s.

Oh wait! I forgot that hubby has a copy of Brand New Day in his truck. I’d rather bring Sting’s Ten Summoner’s Tales.

Why only five? All my CDs are kept in one of those CD holders. I could just grab the whole thing and run. Problem solved. But IF by some freak accident all of my CDs are in their cases and not in my nifty CD holder, I would take

Sting-Ten Summoner’s Tales
Simon and Garfunkle Greatest Hits
The White Album-The Beatles
Band on The Run-Paul McCartney
Beatles Anthology 2

Pepper, we’ve got to get together and have a high-school-style record listening party. LOL

Damn, I thought this thread was gonna be about what to do with coasterware…

Sting: Ten Summoner’s Tales
Loreena Mckennett: The Mask and the Mirror
Enigma: MCMXC
Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells
Any Classical music compilation

W95, w98, Zip Cd, USR cd, Personal video cd.

From my vast Andrew Lloyd Webber cast CD collection:

Hungarian selection CD
Dutch selection CD
Russian Jesus Christ Superstar
1988 Japanese Phantom of the Opera
Forbidden Broadway 20th anniversary CD

You’ve got to be kidding… In the time it would take me to narrow it down, I woulod be an ember! Dude, I have 3,000 CDs, remember?

Creedence Clearwater Revival: “Chronicle”
“Sweeny Todd” (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
Paul Simon’s Central Park Concert
Bobby Darin & Johnny Mercer: “Two of a Kind”

The above four are “locks.” The fifth slot is debatable, but for the sake of finishing this post I’ll say:

“A Little Night Music” (Original Broadway Cast Recording)

No, wait. Cancel “Night Music.”

Number five would be a Sinatra CD, probably “Reprise: The Very Good Years” or “Swingin’ Lovers.”

  1. Hunters & Collectors - Ghost Nation. It’s not my favorite of their albums, but it was the first album of theirs I got, but it was on cassette, and I spent the better part of five years scouring through used-CD racks looking for a copy, as it was discontinued and couldn’t be purchased online. It’s since been rereleased, and I could always order another copy, but I spent too much time looking for it - durned if I’m letting this CD burn.

  2. R.E.M. - Fables of the Reconstruction. The first album I could ever point to and say, “That’s my favorite of all”.

  3. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Three Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. This album is the reason I got a banjo. Now, someday I’m going to learn how to play it, because I want an ELECTRIC banjo like Bela’s got.)

  4. Broadcast - Work and Non-Work. Beautiful, relaxing, and weird all at once. Trish Keenan’s voice… melt

  5. Portishead - Dummy. The wildcard of my list.

Radiohead: “The Bends”
Pink Floyd: “The Division Bell”
Shawn Colvin: “Cover Girl”
Travis: “The Man Who”
Pulp: “Different Class”

(I gave extra points for variety, since I’m only going to own the five CDs after the fire. However, those are my current favorites, off the top of my head.)

Myron: I thought the exact same thing. I was pretty excited to hear about a use for all my coasters…

I’m Not So Tough, Mindy McCready
The Whole SHeBANG, SHeDAISY
A Man Ain’t Made of Stone, Randy Travis
The Hits, Garth Brooks
For The Record, 43 Legendary Hits, Merle Haggard

Garbage “2.0”
TMBG “Factory Showroom”
Pogues “The Essential Pogues”
REM “Fables of the Reconstruction”
and um…
hmmm.

Disc 2 of Bruce Springsteen’s “Tracks”

Led Zep-Physical Graffitti–it’s two discs, so I guess I’d take the second one (that has “Black Country Woman” on it, right?)
David Bowie-Hunky Dory
Buzzcocks-Singles Going Steady
Bob Dylan-The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan
Patti Smith-Horses

FIVE!!! You’re only gonna give us 5!!! Damn this aint easy.
All right I’ll give it a whirl:

  1. Steve Reich - The 4 Sections

  2. Prokofiev - Piano concertos 2 & 3

  3. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

  4. Bela Fleck - Tales From the Acoustic Planet

  5. Oregon - Always, Never, and Forever

No, I couldn’t do it. I’ve left out Yes, Chick Corea, Mahavishnu, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Trilok Gurtu, etc.
