In the beginning of the movie, when the old man Ryan is walking through the cemetary, he passes an old vet who is facing the camera’s direction and just standing there.
My husband and I both think that this must be either: 1) a relative of Steven Spielberg’s who is a WWII vet or 2) a famous WWII vet.
I’ve searched the IMDB and the credits on our DVD but I can’t find anything about him. Does anyone know who that guy is? Is he just some guy?
Thanks.
I think he’s just an extra. If Mr. Spielberg used someone who had some historical significance, he would have most likely mentioned him in the credits (probably under “guy in cemetery”). Cameo appearances are almost always listed in the closing credits, however small they are.

Seeing as all the guy does in the scene is just stand there, I’m guessing he was one of the actual VFW volunteers who greet visitors to the American cemetaries in Europe. You don’t need a SAG card in France.
