Saw Avenue Q today!

Great show. Always had a bit of an irrational prejudice against AQ because it stole the Tony from the more deserving “Wicked,” but the last vestiges of that were swept away with this performance. Brilliant puppetry, outstanding singing, a truly captivating show.

Hey, thanks for posting about it. Good timing - just the other day my husband stumbled across the WoW version of “The Internet is for Porn,” and I told him of my vague recollection that it was from a Broadway show. So I finally dug around for info on the show, and found a.) it looks appealing and b.) it’s coming to Raleigh next Spring. I’ve been trying to decide if I should buy tickets, so your comments are very helpful. Especially considering that the last show we saw was Wicked, and we loved it!

If you are anywhere within the Sesame Street generation, buy the tickets pronto.

Though it is so much more, on one level the show is a send-up of Sesame Street, with people and monsters living, working and singing together on a an urban street, though boy have Bert and Ernie grown up. It is incredibly clever and a lot of fun. Go see it.

… and the Bad Idea Bears are the single funniest concept I have seen in years.

Agreed. I hadn’t laughed so hard at a show since The Drowsy Chaperone. It was very well done, well thought out, and Billdo’s right: for the Sesame Street generation, there’s such a feeling of familiarity it’s eerie – like what’s at the other end of Sesame Street.

Since you know both shows, may I rather strongly suggest that you make it a priority to seek out this documentary, which is a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the making of both musicals (along with two others).

Hope I get to see it some day! I remember a story on it from All Things Considered, including the Porno Monster’s song:

The Internet is for porn!
The Internet is for porn!
Me all night, hugging my horn
To Internet porn!

I submit that the next time there’s a racism kerfuffle on this board, someone should start singing “Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist”.

It’s strange. I own the CD but have never seen the show. It’s the the only show like that in my collection. After seeing the TONY show where they sang “It Sucks to be Me!” I just had to own it.

I like a great number of the songs but “The More You Ruv Someone” is my favorite.

Me up all night, honking me horn

Which is, incidentally, one of the MANY clever callbacks to Sesame Street…specifically the two-headed monster with the trumpet horns on their heads that play them by hitting their noses.

Sorry…I’m a persnickety Broadway nitpicker.

Also of interest to fans of Avenue Q would be Avenue Jew, a mix of Avenue Q and Fiddler on the Roof, about a neighborhood of Jews and Monsters living together. (now I wish we still had the Jewish smilie)

Show tune title!

I’m 34. I bought tickets today.

We caught it in Houston a few weeks ago. It’ll be in Fort Worth next summer, and we’re already making plans to go catch it again.
ETA: Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I would LOVE to see Avenue Q. Wonder if it’s coming to Tampa anytime soon…

April 1-6.

Complete tour locations & dates here.

It should be noted that I tend to find myself humming “Schadenfreude” at particularly inappropriate moments…

When I saw the show the opening song and the televisions with the animated sun brought me back to being 6 years old again. Then there was puppet oral sex and I remembered that I am indeed an adult. I love Broadway.
