Say Hernandez was found not guilty. Does Belichick take him back?

Say a piece of evidence doesn’t turn up, or there’s a payoff by a mysterious hooded man. Something happens to make them declare Aaron Hernandez not guilty and he’s let go. Do someone such as the Patriots pick him up after a decent period and some PR work? How good was he?

Not a chance any team in the NFL would touch him. He would also have to be cleared on the other charges he still hasn’t been tried for - at least two other murders I believe.

Even if he were found not guilty of murder he is definitely guilty of a few other lesser charges.

Well, he’s still facing the trial for the other two murders in Boston, so no one would be able to take him anyway.

But to keep in the spirit of your hypothetical, the Pats would never, ever take him back. He’s caused them enormous amounts of bad press, and Bob Kraft had to testify at his trial. That’s not even considering the fact that the Pats currently have the best TE in the NFL anyway.

Patriots? No. Raiders? Hmmm…

I think the fact the jersey buyback / swap was so successful shows that the public has given up on Hernandez too. He was a very good player but with multiple felony counts having been levied against him, there’s a strong possibility that if he was ever freed that he still might get in serious trouble again and no team is will to commit to someone likely both to become unavailable and generate more bad PR. While there is an emphasis in the NFL to improve player conduct, this goes way beyond that, there’s really just nothing but downside left to him as a member of any NFL team in any city.

Not a chance in hell.

Getting Hernandez would be a PR nightmare.

Plus for the people who’ll eventually bring up Ray Lewis this was way more brutal and way more public

Considering Robert Kraft testified that Hernandez lied to his face about his whereabouts at the time of the murder, I’d say there was a less than zero chance of coming back to the Patriots regardless of the verdict.

He is a talented player but the on-field performance could not make up for the bad will from the fans. There would have to compelling proof that Hernandez was not involved in the crimes for any team to even take his agent’s calls.

Not a chance.

He lied to Bob Kraft.

Bob Kraft had to testify in the trial (for the prosecution).

They already have the best tight end in the game.

He still has to face trail for 2 other murder trials in Boston.

The media frenzy would be insane, and it would be impossible for anything else to be talked about at press conferences.

He’s a murderer and a liar? Bummer!

It’s a sad commentary of professional athletics that the most significant thing is that they’ve got his position covered.

That’s not even close to what he said.

In a vaccuum, ok sure. In this case, no where near the most significant thing.
