I’m listening to ‘Say It Ain’t So Joe’–the version by Roger Daltrey, which, apparently was originally done by Murray Head. Anyway, I know the title seems like it would be a reference to the world series scandal, but nothing in the lyrics seems to indicate that it is. Does anyone know what this song is supposed to be about? (And has anyone heard the Murray Head version? Would I like it as much as the Daltrey version?)
I have loved the Murray Head original since it came out. I’d never heard the Roger Daltrey version, but I’m listening to it now, and I prefer the original: it’s sparser, less rocky and has more ‘hurting’. Daltrey’s (while good) is too bombastic.
