FTR, it supposedly happened before the Clinton thing.
If we’re talking about JK hooking up with a generic woman, I agree.
But if this is a 50+ year old man who sleeps with a 22-year old intern hired to (ahem) work underneath him, that is something that many people will find unacceptable.
I think many people feel this way and is why many are so against Kerry getting the nomination. He’s got the most baggage of any of the candidates (Kookycinich and Shuddup-arton excluded) and stands the least chance of winning. (IMHO and the apparent opinion of many based upon the threads on the SDMB).
Well, it doesn’t make sense to me that Clark would originate or spread this story and then endorse Kerry the next day. Also, I hear that this wasn’t Kerry’s intern, but some press intern. Does anyone have any evidence that this was Kerry’s intern?
That depends, as it often does, on how you count the money.
Kerry took out a loan against his $6 million house for his campaign. Of course, the house was bought at least partly with Heinz money. And the Washington Post reports that Kerry says he will pay back the loan without drawing on his wife’s money. The Post estimated the monthly repayments at $30,389 per month over thirty years. Kerry’s income in 2002 was $144,000.
I suspect the next time a Republican mentions Kerry’s name in public and the Kerry campaign needs money, that will count as ‘going negative’ and Kerry will head for the cash cow with milking stool in hand.
And we will all be treated to descriptions of Kerry’s hardscrabble roots growing up, as we were with Dean (So Poor - The Au Pair Didn’t Have Her Own Bedroom! One Family’s Tragedy).
Assuming, again, that some or all of the rumors are true.
I’d love to see some proof, any proof, that anyone outside of the most whacko of the whackos, actually still thinks at all about Vince Foster, let alone believes Clinton ordered him murdered. It’s a charge often leveled as if a great mass of Republicans believe it, and I have never seen anyone bandy it about as truth other than through a videotape that Pat Robertson, long since dropped by the Moral Majority and the Virginia GOP, used to offer but hasn’t mentioned in years.
So can you find anyone who still believes this, or is it only the figmentary Republicans in your head?
Ann Coulter had a whole chapter devoted to it in High Crimes and Misdemeanors. I understand Rush refers to it as “unsolved” from time to time. Freepers often refer to “Arkancide.” From all this, I definitely get the impression that when the right talks to the right, there are a great number of people who entertain the theory, anyway. How are we supposed to meet your standard, exactly?
Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. If Kerry has to devote any time to it at all, he’ll look bad, and that was probably Drudge’s intent. The shit-flinging is well under way.
Why do you care how Kerry’s wife spends her money? What are you suggesting about their marriage? Do you have some evidence that John Kerry does not love his wife? What is your basis for calling her a “cash cow?” What are you insinuating?
I’m very relieved. I was talking about this on the democrats’ livejournal last week, (and got branded a Republican troll for my troubles, something y’all around here can’t fail to find hysterically funny). Better go through it now than on Halloween. Let’s drag the shit out, sort through it, and get over it.
Does anyone have any evidence, period? So far, all we’ve got is Drudge’s breathless say-so and an off-the-record quote attributed to Wesley Clark. I think we’ve met the journalistic standards of the Weekly World News, but that’s about it.
Obviously Rush’s drug problem hasn’t been cleared up the way we thought.
The point at which I had to switch off the radio was when Rush started claiming that Dems couldn’t campign “on the issues”, and that all they had to work with is scandal. (He was referring to the examination of Bush’s service records) That was when I screamed.
How the fuck do people like Rush avoid having their brains explode?
Only people who were virtually certain not to vote for a democrat to begin with. Since when is an older man having an affair with a young woman something to base one’s vote on? She wasn’t 12!
It seems that Clark has announced he will endorse Kerry now, with that, I think this bit of propaganda against Kerry is silly. If someone wants to hold to the notion that there was some truth that Clark was one of the sources, then this follows IMO:
This was the way to deal with this issue, doing some media manipulation that showed Drudge and others in a bad light at the end of the day. I think that now Clark will never verify that he said that, and combined with his endorsement of Kerry, Drudge et al will end up with egg in their faces. Very clever if true, however there is a saying that one should blame incompetence first, so I think the ineptitude is coming this time from the right wing media sources.
The other possibility, (and again!) if true, was that for Clark it was a moment of sour grapes that was misinterpreted by the reporters.
Or, the whole thing is plain BS propaganda from the extreme right media.
If it is the former, it is high time that anyone that claims to fight ignorance, should drop those sources of infotainment.
What’s all this talk about the “Heinz Money” as if it belongs to the stockholders of the Heinz Corporation? As I understand it, Kerry’s wife is an heiress. Therefore it is HER money-- not “The Heinz Money”.
The Kerrys are a married couple. I assume they have a certain agreement about how they share their combined assets, which is their business.
If I were running for president (a very expensive undertaking to be sure) I would hope my wife might be willing to hand over a few bucks of her pin money to help my chances.
Also-- didn’t Kerry refuse Federal matching funds? He can spend personal money any way he wants.
Ummm… you might want to talk to a neighborhood feminist about how power dynamics can distort the idea of “consent.” Not that a hardline feminist is likely gonna vote for W, but they might not vote at all. I am a lukewarm Bush supporter, and Kerry wasn’t gonna get my vote anyway, but to me this sort of thing (IF true) speaks of an attitude about the use of power and other sorts of character issues.
How does it say anything about power? As yet there is no allegation that she worked for him or that any abuse of power was involved? How does it say anything about “character?” Is a single man not allowed to get laid?
Could you at least wait until the thing actually happens, before telling us what assholes we are for doing what you’re sure we’re gonna do? Of course, upon sober reflection you realize that this is rather silly, as well as insulting, yes? Needlessly insulting, more to the point.
Given your preceding sentence, I will count this as entirely unconcious drollery.
As to Kerry, we have the unimpeachable testimony of the delightfully equine Ann Coulter: http://www.anncoulter.org/columns/2004/012804e.htm
"For over 30 years, Kerry’s primary occupation has been stalking lonely heiresses…Kerry sees a room full of wealthy widows as “a target-rich environment.”
“…seen catting around with Hollywood starlets…” (This is offered in a perjorative context: any twinge of approval and/or envy reflects poorly on your character!)
“…her Lothario ex-husband…”
“…Kerry is like some character in a Balzac novel, an adventurer twirling the end of his mustache and preying on rich women…” (Rich women swoon over Fred Gwynne lookalikes…who knew?)
What more evidence do we need? Thank Heavens the liberal media have managed to keep this contained to Grudge (its 5:25 here, and no one else seems to have picked up on it…)
