The trode is the graphite electrode used in the electrical discharge machine to “burn” ( spark erode) the cavity in a plastic injection mold. If an error is made in figuring out the spark gap, the amount the cavity will be larger than the trode, then the steel you wanted to leave in the mold for size adjustment was burned away.
One likes to leave a mold cavity small, so that if size changes are needed, steel can be removed( steel safe).
The recast layer of steel that is EDMed needs to be polished so the part can be ejected from the mold.
Gate seal occurs when the gate freezes off, meaning no more plastic can be injected into the mold. Plastic is compressable, so if you " overpack" the mold, inject more plastic than there is room for, you can change the size of the resultant part and meet print dimension (hold size).
