Saying Hot Chick = Being A Misogynist Asshole

I would have thought this Pitt would be the obvious choice.

I love you.

The Pitt, named in recognition of William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham.

Is it upsetting that this person is more coherent and respectable than you, sockwear or not? Their point was more valid than any moralizing bullshit you spew.

I’m just amused that the ATTACK THE POST AND NOT THE POSTER brigade abandon ship real quick when a mirror is held up to this place. There is too much obsession about socks/banned posters/trolls/etc.

I’ve never set foot on that ship. Fuckin’ thing is a deathtrap.

Did someone stumble onto your sock? Or did you just need to get a swipe at me despite it having no relevance to this thread?

I call out obvious trolls. Like you right now since you, again, randomly decided to attack me even though it has nothing to do with this thread. You’d rather defend a bigoted troll.

This is the pit, you idle brained shit. Attack the post, not the poster is only the rule on GD.

Though I do love the octopus level of hypocrisy. How dare you fucking assholes be mean in the Pit! Oh, and fuck you, BigT!

And, guess what? Those fucking trolls lost us 11+ trans people, so I’m not going to let up on it.

Thanks Dangerosa, mwah!

No. The hypocrites are you and the other fools who whine about hot chick being used to refer to a random woman but got butthurt when they couldn’t call other posters a cunt. You people lack intellectually consistency and morals.

Uh, there is nothing intrinsically hypocritical about objecting to the use of the phrase “hot chick” in a context of civil political discourse where it is irrelevant and inappropriate while also advocating the use of the term “cunt” in a forum specifically devoted to foul language and insult.
It kind of astounds me that you even momentarily thought you had a logical argument there.

You didn’t “call out an obvious troll”, you fucking idiot. You called out what you think is a sock account. It may well be, but why do you give a shit? Oh, that’s right. You’ve appointed yourself the SDMB’s Troll/Sock Slayer, the wind blowing your cape as you frantically type away in the dim light of your basement bedroom, waiting to bathe in the accolades from fellow posters, imagining a virtual crowd of folks shouting “BigT! BigT! BigT!”, while thinking smugly to yourself “Not today, troll/sock! Not on my watch!”

You think you’re automatically superior to someone because they’re new, and immediately brush aside what they have to say, paint them as a troll and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. HelenTroy is 100% right - we really, really, need to get over the obsession with troll/sock hunting. There’s a thread in ATMB asking for suggestions to keep the SDMB running and bringing in revenue. Do you think this board can ever be self supporting, and grow and thrive, when there’s such an obvious disdain for new members? Yeah, the person upthread probably is a sock. So? What harm has been done? Why would you want to chase new members away, whether they’re a returning member or not? Unless they’re aggressively trolling, using hate speech etc, there’s no reason. You are actually doing more harm than good to a board that you’ve said before makes up your entire social life. Good job. Keep fighting the good fight, because that’s what heroes do!

I mean, jesus fucking christ.

Its almost like they are…dare I say it…hysterical and emotional.

Cool story. Thanks for sharing. My favorite story like this is the one with the woman on the train putting on her makeup:

Him: I like women to have a more natural look
Her: I like men to have a more a silent look

I’m sure I got the wording wrong on that, but you get the gist. It made my morning.

Damn you snfaulkner!

There are a number of recurring socks that disrupt conversation here. That’s a problem, one we manage fine.

I don’t know about this instance though, as I have no idea what What’sGoingToSetYouFree was going on about. Does anyone have a link to the offending comments regarding the SCOTUS nomination?

I agree that the board should be more welcoming to new members that can plausibly aid in the fight against ignorance. I’d start with having members discourage zombie jokes in GQ. I’d also loosen or clarify the guidelines on junior modding a tad. To wit, overtly friendly remarks to newbies should get a pass (as they do now actually).

Triggering

Yes. Quite. I figured out over a decade ago that modern conservatives were walking glass houses and that their characterizations of liberals were mostly a twisted form of projection. Don’t accuse them of the latter though. Just point out their displays of fragility: there are plenty of examples. In your mind recall their mockery of those advocating content advisories for victims of violence - a simple heads up is more than conservatives can bear.

Yeah. Putting on airs about “fighting ignorance” is another thing we really need to drop.

I mean, I get it. It’s what this place was founded on, and it’s something I’ve always appreciated about this place. We’re the ones on Facebook that always post a snopes link in response to some glurgy meme that one of our friends or relatives regurgitates. But this whole affect of pretending we belong to some exclusive club that is somehow above the rest of the internet is pretty silly. I mean, who decides if a newer poster is doing enough to aid the fight against ignorance? You? Should there be a committee?

Potty mouth.

Liar.

Eh, I prefer to think of myself as an eternal optimist.

True, but come on. If you don’t tolerate and enable the utter fragility of the post-50 male psyche breaking down over the most minute of doubts in its absolute control over public discourse, you’re pretty much worse than a Nazi. Worse, you might just be a gulp millenial.
