Sayonara, Netanyahu! {He's Back! 2022-11-02}

That’s the most awesome thing about all of this (well, in a rather fucked up way) - it’s currently ongoing :thinking:. Ah, modern politics - the blackest and grimmest of black comedies.

First off, since your position is that “your opinion, and mine, are completely irrelevant”, it seems that any argument advanced would be inappropriate for a non-Israeli to make. Our job, to your way of thinking, is what you bolded in your quote: to “respect their judgement.”

That said “what the fuck, Israel” is to those of us who do feel that discussing other countries’ leadership results and their impact is of interest and appropriate, an excellent thesis statement for a POV likely widely held among the center left in particular. On the Far Left it can be read as confirmation of what they already believe about Israel, but center Left tends to see Israel as our most reliable ally in the region and as the closest the region has to a democracy. When they vote back in someone who was a smart Trump before there was Trump, “what the fuck” encapsulates much.

All the rest is implied.

Not excited about it. Nor surprised.

FWIW as to the lack of surprise.

I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed.

Anyway, here’s an brief analysis from CNN that shows how a small change in election laws helped decide the elections:

Bibi won the “popular vote” (which means even less here than it does in the U.S.) by just 0.7%. If the left-wing parties the Arab parties had gotten their heads out of their asses and worked together, the election results would have been much closer - even a draw.

That said, the right did do a much better job at bringing out voters, while the left spent most of the election season gazing at its own navels.

Wow does that resemble US politics! Enthusiasm matters, and it’s much easier to “fire up the base” on the right just due to differences in the inherent personality types drawn to those two sets of beliefs about human nature.

I’m pretty sure this is a universal constant, not a feature of one country or another :rofl:

Worldwide, simple arguments to hate, fear and blame the “other”, work well to motivate simple electorates.
