Just thought I’d toss this out.
Mississippi Baptists recently had a chance to vote on the brand spanking new Baptist Faith and Message, Y2K edition. (Ya’ll should recall the furor this stirred in the media about it. Women barred from the pulpit, Women encouraged to “Submit” to their husbands, Use of Fire banned, ect, ad nauseum.) Well… Now it’s time for the States to “Adopt” this message.
One fact that gets ignored in popular media is the fact that the states are under no obligation to follow the SBC leadership. For instance, Most of Texas has withdrawn funding from the SBC dominated Seminaries. That’s $45 million going to Texas Seminaries now, where they can teach them to interpret the bible according to the will of God, not some human in Nashville.
Now, Mississippi has officially declined to adopt a BFM issued by the SBC. We, it seems, never have adopted one, Not in 1913, 1963, nor this one. They didn’t go as far as I would have liked, but it’s a start.
Arkansas, if I’ve read the news right, has also declined to adopt it. Both states leave it up to the individual church. Arkansas did adopt the 1963 BFM, so they are sticking with that one.
It’s a start. I predict more of an uprising sooner or later.
