SCA Dopers?

What’s stopping you?

Bosda, I may be about to make you jealous. I know the woman who writes Lady Tudor Glitz, and am somewhat of a friend of hers. I might see if I can use this for an excuse to give her a call.

As for me, I’m not a member at the moment, and a certain car accident delayed my plans to back to fencing, but I live in the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands in Aethelmearc, less than 100 miles from Pennsic.

CJ

Is she still drawing/writing!?!?

I tried to get involved a while back but found it to be a bit cliquish. Perhaps if I new some people who were active in it, it may have been easier to get involved. Not that folks were not friendly, I just felt out of place. Maybe I will try again some time, because I still would like to get involved.

Haven’t been so involved recently (my wife is seriously involved), but:

Geoffrey Linyiue
Shire of Ildhafn (technically “incipient-Barony” now I think)
Southern Reaches of Caid (unless the BoD has finally decided to give us to Lochac)

English, mid-14th C, trainee herald.

My SO’s a member, and he took me to an event last December. I really, really liked it. I want to get involved, but I really can’t at the moment–he’s not heavily involved, and I don’t want to get involved here at school because I’d have to leave in nine months.

But it sounds really, really cool. I’ve even been coming up with a name and stuff :).

Something you’re not telling us?
Or are you just going away to school?

Infidels camp… hehehehe…
Although I havne’t gotten to go to many events the last 2 years. Right now I’m trying to get armor together so I can start fighting again. I miss it.

And Metalhead… if you can make armor tha fits SCA combat specs (check out www.armourarchive.org for information) I’m sure there are folks that would love to have you at your local SCA branch.

Tristan,

I got your email, and will respond today.

Zap,

The first SCA group I ever looked in to was very cliquish too…but I kept looking, and eventually found a really great group of people to play with. Don’t give up hope!

Do you be impuning my virtue, Ethilrist? :dubious:

I graduate at the end of December, which is approximately nine months away, and I’ll be going to live with the SO.

I also forgot to mention one thing: the SO and I were handfasted in a very small, private ritual at an SCA event. Actually, Ethilrist, I believe you were about 100 yards away at the time, if I remember where you were correctly. It was at Boar’s Head. My first event; didn’t know there were Dopers there.

Vivat! Trimaris!

I have family active in the SCA in Trimaris, I spent my first SCA event in the Trimaris encampment at Pennsic (2001). I’ve since gone to a few other Trimaris events…but nothing locally (I’m in the Kingdom of the East). It’s a fun diversion, but haven’t been able to make it a regular part of my life due to other committments (first wedding planning, now grad school). On the other hand, I just received some garb bits (jewelry, finger cymbals) for my birthday and am having a gown made for me…

Thanks for the link. I mostly strive for realism with my stuff. No plastic or stuff like that, although I am considering some modern padding for a piece or two. The style is a mixture of what (IMHO) worked best for various people down thru the ages and the overall concept/design is more like what I would envision a run of the mill mercenery would wear. Of course, at this point I have almost nothing thats finished, many pieces begun, so it’s all really in my head. But it’ll get there, I hope.

Metalhead- Well, enjoy. The Archive is a great place to discuss armor. Many of the people there are pushing hard to get people into more period armor, and more realistic armor. There are far to many people that go out wearing bright blue plastic armor that looks like something out of Max Max (I used to be guilty. I got better). Hope to see some of your stuff out there someday!

Woeg - I await with baited breath… or mayhaps I should brush my teeth…

Apollyn- Not only has the BoD not given you folks Lochac (WEST FOREVER!!! ARRGH!!!) but Lochac is not it’s very own Kingdom. Happened last year, I believe. Made for one of the most interesting Crown Tourneys out here, since whoever won was going to have to take a trip Down Under to crown the newly annointed King of Lochac. If I remember correctly, the winner was Jade of Starfall, after a much heated battle…

In another life I was known as David of Cath Twr and resided in the Kingdom of Ansteorra. I have been inactive since moving to the West Kingdom.
