For those that didn’t catch my earlier thread, I belong to a Medieval / Renaissance re-enactment group, known as the Society for Creative Anachronism, SCA for short. Anyway, this last Saturday evening, I was talking with a group of people at this small event, when I heard someone mention the Straight Dope Message Board. Surprised, I took up conversation with the lady, who turns out to be screech-owl!

I know what you mean. I’ve run into Biggirl (aka Pink Slinky) on the subway and on the street. It’s always a treat and it makes one feel sooooo popular.
Not sure about attending the event this weekend. The Orlando-UCF ShakespeareFest is up and running “The Woman in Black” (well worth the drive to Orlando) and I am helping them get ready for the next show, “Complete History of America, Abridged (New Expanded Condensed Millenium Edition)”. Not to mention a heck of a lot of other theatre things in town (October 16th reading of “Eleanor of Aquitaine”) and my regular job, as well as trying to get all the garb washed and dry-cleaned and studying for my herald’s examination and a few backlog scrolls to finish. But maybe if my brand-new car doesn’t break down like the last time driving from Wyvernwood to Swamp Keype, we’ll see.

It’s true—I was dumping body parts in the Gowanus Canal at 3:00 in the morning, and there were Ukulele Ike, PLDennison and Vanilla doing the exact same thing!

I am Maura of Amurgorod. I am still working on my persoana and a surname or byname but I am living on the Isle of Man during the last quarter of the 14th century. I was not at either of the events happening this past weekend though. Perhaps there should be a Trimarian Doper get together at a kingdom event sometime?
And it is funny that you mention Amurgorod! I was one of the founding members of the Shire, circa 1987. Rurik still there? And who is now the seneschal?
Well, in case you are wondering, Kestrel, my Society name is Lord Daffydd ap Gryffn, and I usually wear Templar garb, so you will know who to acost next time we are at the same event. Are you going to Baronial, or is Martinmass your next event?
Now that you mention it, I seem to run into the same doper almost every freakin’ day! The bastard, Nen keeps coming into my house, drinking beer, eating food, and petting cats. He acts like he lives there! He’s even moved furniture into the place. Also, I end up talking to his wife, another doper who goes by the handle lilah, every couple of days. I can’t escape the influence of the Straight Dope even in the privacy of my own home!
