Scariest moments in funny series

Right bad dream, wrong groom. Fred was worrying that Pebbles was going to grow up and marry the newspaper boy who always hit Fred on the noggin with the evening edition…

Can’t remember the newspaper boy’s name, but he liked to think of Fred and himself as being best buds. Like Dennis the Menace and Mr. Wilson.

The part where Homer appears through the hedge and then walks backwards back through it after Ned tells him he’s busy is perhaps the most unsettling moment ever on the Simpsons.

Oh my god here it is:

*The Simpsons *episode “Duffless” I think has the show’s creepiest moment. Lisa is mad at Bart for ruining her science project so she takes to giving him electric shocks at inoppurtune moments. Bart reaches for the cupcakes and is then reduced to falling to the floor and going into a fetal position through her aversion therapy while that creepy Clockwork Orange music plays. The scene only lasts about ten seconds before Homer breaks it up, but it was brilliant.

Seinfeld: Crazy Joe Davola. I always found him just a tad too violent to be considered funny.

I think that was supposed to be a reference to the sci-fi/horror flick The 4-D Man.

I always thought it was a reference to Terminator 2 (especially later when Homer tries to chase down Ned’s Geo).

Arnold, the paperboy.

What? No one remembers the horror of Bobby & Cindy getting lost in the Grand Canyon?

Was it he who dressed up like Pagliacci and saw them outside the opera? Or was that another of their crazy acquaintances?

I came in here to mention Fantasy Island, but not the episode you refer to. There was one (I think it was a 90-minute special) that involved a woman having a very scary, surreal dream about being in a house that burned down–it was a flashback from her childhood of something that she couldn’t remember. There were scary clown dolls involved, which made it worse. It freaked me out, but I loved it. I wish I could find the episode so I could see that sequence again and see if it was really as scary as I remembered it.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the tunnel scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory yet. Not a series, true, but definitely a scary scene in an otherwise fairly lighthearted movie.

The same guy

There was another episode of the Jeffersons where the focus is on the NYC gangs that were growing at that time. They somehow befriended a very young ganster (barely a child) and shortly thereafter found out that he was killed in some sort of gang inititaion ritual that required him to start a fight with a rival gang. That is how I remember it over 25 years ago but it was very upsetting. Any supporting details are welcome.

It that the one where George got stabbed? He was trying to track down some kid, got surrounded by gang members (for some reason I remember them being all girls), and one of them stabbed him in the stomach. The episode ended with him laying on the ground bleeding. The next episode started with him walking around the apartment yelling into a phone, so he must have survived.

I remember that episode.

The kid talks about how he can’t wait to win some “medals”, which turn out to be knife wounds, battle scars.

Later, the kid’s older friend shows up at the Jefferson’s place and says:

“Well, he finally got his medals.”

“Oh, no, is he badly hurt?”

“He’s dead.”

That’s the one. I is good to hear that my long-term memory is still with me. I found it a pretty chilling episode.

Anyone remember the “Full House” episode where DJ volunteers at a retirement home, and ends up taking one of the old guys back to her house for the afternoon (his name was Eddie), and it turns out he has Alzheimer’s? Did anyone else get kind of creeped out by that? I’m not sure why…he was a nice guy, not his fault he was getting a bit demented. He just sort of gave me a funny feeling.
