Scariest song?

That’s called “Lullaby”.

If you can include whole albums, the Pink Floyd “The Wall” can be very scary especiaaly if you have ever been close to the edge.

The inclusion of the prayer
“Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my sould to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
in Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” adds a great touch of fear.

But the ultimate single scary song for me is an early Peter Gabriel track from “Melt” called Intruder.
Here is a snippet of the lyrics
“I like to feel the suspense when I’m certain you know I am there
I like you lying awake, your baited breath charging the air
I like the touch and the smell of all the pretty dresses you wear”

“Sparky’s magic piano”, scares me anyway.

That’ll remind me not to look at my MP3 list for song titles. (I change them all to stuff that I remember)

“no more sorry” by my bloody valentine

When I was a kid, I thought “Wuthering Heights” by Kate Bush was really, really scary. Not so much now though.

I have another Nick Cave entry: “The Carny”. Chilling stuff.

And I almost forgot “In Heaven” by Peter Ivers, off the Eraserhead soundtrack. Maybe you have to have seen the film, but there’s something really unsettling about that song.

“Cryptorchid” by Marilyn Manson. I don’t even like the guy, but this song just creeps me out.

Ooh, seconder for “No More Sorry” - really the worst song about abuse I’ve ever heard - even more so than “Luka” or “What’s the Matter Here”, because of the sexual/autobiographical aspect, and the soft vocals. “Me and a Gun” comes close.
and “The Carny” freaks me out no end - the way Nick wails “Away”, and the very filmic quality of it all
but the scariest song I know is The Swans - “Beautiful Child”
“This is my sacrifice … this is my only regret, that I ever was born”
Not creepy scary, fear-of-physical-harm scary

Nobody’s mentioned Warren Zevon’s “Excitable Boy” yet?

To go along with the “Possum Kingdom” by the Toadies mentioned earlier, I’ll nominate “Tyler” by the same band.

It’s a story of a stalker/burglar told from the stalker’s point of view. Creeps me out just thinking about it:

I found a window out in the kitchen
and I let mysyself in.
I rummage through the refridgerator,
pour myself a beer.
I can’t believe I’m really here,
and she’s lying in that bed.
I can almost feel her touch
and her anxious breath.

Whoa…

“Country Death Song” by Violent Femmes
“What Do We Do But Cry” by Third Eye Foundation
“So Much Wine” by Handsome Family

I don’t know if scary is the word I would use for these songs, but they’re songs that are definitely dark, sad, and somewhat eerie.

I tend to find the Murder Ballads a funny album.
For the more sinister Cave, I stick with Your Funeral…My Trial.

“Jack’s Shadow” is nice and spooky. Quite unlike his recent album, Nocturama (but I forgive him for that).

Skinny Puppy’s Worlock always creeped me out. The video was horrible because it included vivisection in it.

Also Christian Death’s “Only Theatre of Pain” and “Ashes” were plenty scarey when I used to listen to that crap.

Pink Floyd’s “Careful with that Ax, Eugene”. Those are the only words. They’re only spoken once. It’ll scare the bejeezus outta you. I guarantee it. Crank the volume and prepare to die.

It doesn’t scare me, but Eminem’s Kim sure is creepy.

Wow, you all are into some decent music!

Of course, Nick Cave being my boyfriend and all, I find him not so much frightening as enthralling, but The Carny is indeed a freaky song.

However, the only songs I’ve ever head in my life that have scared me so bad I cannot hear them again, are The Awakening by Alice Cooper, and Hamburger Lady by…Throbbing Gristle, is it?

I’ve seen people throw up and run out of the room when the latter song is played. It’s awful. “Ham-bur-ger La-dy…”
(for those who’ve never heard it, it’s about a woman who’s been badly burned in a car accident. the singer’s droning voice singing about her injuries is…stuttery, due to some sound effect, and there’s this droning-car noise and heart-beat sound behind it. it makes me feel like I can’t breathe)

Some Tool song that I don’t know the title of. Sorry, not much help.

How is Rap like Porn? Both are better with the sound turned off.

Any of the tracks from the LOTR soundtracks that pertain to either Ringwraiths or other evil-inducing characters. Creepy.

A lot of Tool songs became scary for me after I saw the videos. Sober especially.

I’m really, really sorry I read this thread. Yikes.

I came in here with one that really scares me every time I hear it, but is incredibly tame compared to the ones listed. The children’s song “The Cat Came Back” freaks me out.
